WASHME TV (Work And Save Human Minority Entrepreneurs TV) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to transforming the lives of low-income individuals and minority entrepreneurs through access to quality mentoring, business education, financial literacy. The goal of Washmetv is to increase the entrepreneurial spirit, assist in employment opportunities in the community, assist the participants to retain,
save and spent wisely the money earned, and in doing so, improve the quality of the workforce to sustain economic growth, enhance productivity and competitiveness, and reduce welfare dependency. EDUCATION:
We coordinate with local educational and non-profit facilities to offer youth and adults who have become disconnected from mainstream institutions and systems, additional opportunities to successfully transition to adult roles and responsibilities by assisting them to complete their GED and further their education. We offer one on one literacy assistance for youth and adults. We are committed to applying a collaborative approach at the national, state, and local levels in our service to our community’s neediest youth and adults and pledge to strive always to develop innovative approaches, to enhance the quality of our service delivery, and to improve the educational outcomes for the youth and adults we serve. TECHNOLOGY:
We offer computer technology in an effort to support a program in CD/DVD development and production of local events and community occasions as well as computer classes for workforce development. We support our program with staffing, volunteers, equipment and curriculum. We provide young people the opportunity to use technological tools to record “impact” events (website design, Internet Video Commercials, internetspokespeople.com, weddings, graduations, funerals, etc…) as well as to express and explore their own ideas and perspectives while working in a collaborative supportive community. This program is intended to respond to two goals (1) to provide under-served youth with increased access to technology, and (2) to encourage female and minority youth to enter technical careers. ENTREPRENEURSHIP:
Our program encourages and teaches basic business principles and fundamentals in starting a business. By the end of the program, participants will understand marketing basics and best business practices in establishing their own business. They will understand what financiers are looking for and have the basic skills to research and develop their ideas and passions. Participants will have information and access to local and state resources for further skill development and training. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT:
WASHMETV wishes to empower the community’s young people with confidence and the ability to make well-informed choices. We provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower individuals to achieve their highest potential while giving back to the community. We do this by providing unique leadership training, service-learning, and motivation-building opportunities and experiences. WASHMETV recognizes that youth development and leadership are important components of workforce development programs. We provide opportunities for young people to develop the attributes they need to be successful in the workplace such as responsibility, integrity, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills by closely sponsoring and mentoring work related and school related activities. We recognize that occupational preparation and work readiness skills are important, but personal qualities such as interpersonal relations, planning, and problem solving are also part of being an effective worker. WASHMETV programs provide many of the personal and social development pieces needed for youth to succeed in becoming the employees that employers want. WASHMETV emphasizes effective practices such as adult mentoring and activities related to leadership, development, decision-making, citizenship, and community service. Adult mentoring and leadership development opportunities such as community service and peer-centered activities during non-school hours are encouraged and promoted. Our youth development is a process that prepares young people to meet the challenges of adolescence and adulthood through a coordinated, progressive series of activities and experiences which help them to become socially, morally, emotionally, physically, and cognitively competent. Our youth program can be defined as both an internal and external process leading to (1) the ability to guide or direct our participants in their daily course of actions by word and deed and assisting the to develop the ability to analyze their own strengths and weaknesses, to set personal and vocational goals, and to have the self-esteem to carry them out. WASHMETV training includes the ability to identify community resources and show participants how to use them, not only to live independently, but also to establish support networks to participate in community life and to effect a positive social existence.
