Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library was built on a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves the opportunity to dream, learn, and grow through the pages of a book.
This program has always been incredibly important to Dolly. What began as a tribute to her father and his inability to read and write grew into a mission that has placed books into the hands and homes of millions of children. But the impact of those books reaches far beyond learning words on a page.
Reading lays a foundation.
When a child is introduced to books at an early age, we have an opportunity to help create a love for reading that can stay with them throughout their entire life. A book can build vocabulary, encourage imagination, prepare a child for school, and open their eyes to a world of possibilities.
But sometimes, the greatest impact happens in the quiet moments.
Reading to a child builds relationships. It encourages bonding. It gives families a reason to sit together, slow the world down for just a few minutes, and simply be present with one another. In a world that moves so quickly, those moments matter.
For the children enrolled in the Imagination Library of Coffee County, a new book arriving in the mailbox each month is more than a package. It is excitement. It is an opportunity to learn. It is a bedtime story with Mom or Dad, a special afternoon with a grandparent, or perhaps the beginning of a lifelong love of reading.
Dolly gave us an incredible legacy. Now it is up to us to help carry it forward.
Keeping this program available to the children of Coffee County takes all of us. Every donation, every sponsor, and every person who shares our mission helps ensure that another child can continue receiving books in their home.

The Imagination Library of Coffee County would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Enterprise Rotary Club for their incredibly generous donation to our program!

Enterprise Rotary Club chose to sponsor 66 children for one year. That is a incredible gesture and we are so grateful for their generosity and their willingness to use their local organization to support the children and families in our community.

As we continue working toward our fundraising goals, donations like this make such a meaningful difference. Every dollar helps us continue putting books into the hands and homes of children throughout Coffee County, encouraging a love of reading from an early age. 📚❤️

Friends, we need help. The Coffee County Imagination Library has experienced a huge influx of new registrations over the past few days. While we are grateful beyond words that more precious children will receive the gift of books, we are unprepared to cover our portion of the cost long term. Please help if you can.

Our hearts are heavy and our world forever changed at the loss of our Dolly!!!

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, 1317 children in Coffee County find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

But while the books are free to our families, they are not free to our program—and we need our community’s help to keep them coming. One book cost $2.60, but thanks to the State of Alabama's pledge to cover half of that cost we are responsible for $1.30 per book, per child, per month.

As enrollment continues to grow, so does the financial responsibility of keeping this program available to every eligible child in our community. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us keep books arriving in little hands and helps build a stronger foundation for the future of Coffee County.

Family Services Center of Coffee County, Inc. is proud to partner with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to bring the joy of reading directly into the homes of children throughout Coffee County.
Through the Imagination Library of Coffee County, enrolled children receive one high-quality, age-appropriate book delivered to their home every month—completely free to their family. These books help children build early literacy skills, encourage a love of reading, and give families an opportunity to learn, read, and grow together.
But while the books are free to our families, they are not free to our program—and we need our community’s help to keep them coming. One book cost $2.60, but thanks to the State of Alabama's pledge to cover half of that cost we are responsible for $1.30 per book, per child, per month.
We are currently serving more than 1,268 local children, and our program is responsible for $1.30 per child, per month. That means it costs $15.60 to provide an entire year of books to one Coffee County child—12 books delivered directly to their home!
As enrollment continues to grow, so does the financial responsibility of keeping this program available to every eligible child in our community. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps us keep books arriving in little hands and helps build a stronger foundation for the future of Coffee County.
