We’ve got windows…and curbs! Those windows are going to make Southwick House a bright, welcoming place! We’ve been pretty lucky with the weather helping everything to stay on track, but it’s gotta be rough working in this heat! Thanks to the crew and subcontractors out there working during this scorcher of a week!

Things continue to move along quickly at the building site. Every day we’re a step closer to opening our doors!

On the night of January 28, 2026, Kansas counted 3,107 people experiencing homelessness. 2,180 sheltered, 927 unsheltered, across 2,595 households.

In the Kansas Balance of State CoC — 101 counties, nine regions — the count was 1,135 people. That included 262 people experiencing chronic homelessness, 70 veterans, and 66 unaccompanied youth.

Statewide, the total rose 17% from 2025. Context matters here: count night fell during a historic Arctic outbreak, with wind chills of -20°F to -30°F. Several communities opened temperature-triggered cold weather shelters that wouldn't have been operating, or counted, in a milder January.

Oh look! It’s us! Thanks for sharing our exciting news, KSNT 27 News!

An organization that will offer housing and supportive services for women and families at risk of homeless is about to open. To support the launch, a board enacted by the Kansas Legislature has given a $171,722 grant. ⬇️

Every January, Kansas counts.

The Point-in-Time count is an annual census HUD requires of every Continuum of Care, conducted during the last ten days of January. It captures people staying in shelters, transitional housing, vehicles, encampments, and other places not meant for human habitation.

KSHC organizes the count across the 101 counties of the Balance of State — recruiting and training volunteers, refining the survey, and analyzing the results alongside our partners.

It's a snapshot, not the whole picture. A single night can't capture everyone, and the count is understood to miss people who are doubled up or staying in motels.
