Doing good is what Kiwanis does best.
The Kiwanis Club of Elyria has always supported children's literacy initiatives.
Last March, we started a new program, READ and RISE, that provides a crate of Scholastic paperback books to each of the 20 second grade classrooms in the Elyria City School District. Students read a book and get an entry into a drawing for prizes. At the end of the last school year, every child took a book home. It was a big hit, so we just received our new shipments of 525 books and lots of prizes to do another round from October to December. Funding for the program was provided by the Black River Education and Wellness Foundation.

We are excited to have received our latest shipment of 500+ books from Scholastic for our newest literacy program, READ and RISE. We did a pilot version at the end of the last school year and it was a hit!
We put a crate of books in each 2nd grade classroom in the Elyria City School District. It's completely voluntary. Kids read them and drop an entry coupon into a ballot box for prize drawings. At the end of the year, each child takes a book home.
This project was made possible with grant funding received from the Black River Education and Wellness Foundation. Thank you for your support!
