Since our first meeting in March 1928, the Junior League of Greater Elmira-Corning has empowered generations of women to become community leaders, build meaningful connections, and turn their passion for service into lasting impact.

For nearly 100 years, women of the Junior League of Greater Elmira-Corning have been putting their time, talent, and energy toward building a stronger community.

That work continues today. Since 2021, JLGEC has distributed more than 52,000 diapers across the Southern Tier, and we’ve strengthened that work by partnering with C.I.D.S. to get diapers and wipes directly into the hands of families who need them. Our members also show up in other ways—cooking community meals, supporting local organizations, awarding scholarships, volunteering, and listening to our community partners to better understand where we can make an impact.
But meaningful community work takes people.

If you know a woman who wants to connect with others, grow her leadership skills, volunteer in our community, and be part of something bigger than herself, introduce her to the Junior League. We’re always looking for women who want to roll up their sleeves and get involved.

The future of this work starts with the women who choose to show up. We’d love to have you—or someone you know—join us.

Hi, I’m Jessica, and I’m excited to be serving as a Membership Committee Co-Chair for the Junior League of Greater Elmira-Corning this year!

I joined the League during the 2022–2023 year after being invited by my co-chair, Erica. At the time, I didn’t know much about the Junior League. I was simply looking to build a network of more like-minded people and maybe make a few new friends along the way.

I’ve been inspired by the women I’ve connected with and the work we’re doing throughout our community. Getting the chance to learn more about the place we live while making a difference and giving back to those who need it most has been incredibly rewarding.

I’ve had the opportunity to be part of projects like Hampers of Hope, our New Member Class initiative supporting women transitioning out of domestic violence situations, as well as our diaper drives supporting local families. Each experience has given me another perspective on the needs in our community and another reason to be grateful for the women I get to work alongside.

Serving as a board member has also pushed me outside of my comfort zone in the best ways. The League has helped me develop my leadership and organizational skills while giving me opportunities for personal growth — all while giving back to my community and growing my circle of friends.

This year, as Membership Committee Co-Chair, I’m looking forward to meeting more women and simply helping them learn about what the League is all about. If our mission speaks to you, I’d love to meet you and tell you more about JLGEC!

125 years of women creating change

In 1901, a group of women in New York City came together with a simple idea: that they could improve the lives of those around them by working together.

That idea grew into a movement.

Inspired by that legacy, the Junior League of Greater Elmira Corning held its first meeting in 1928 and officially joined the national Junior League movement in 1932. Nearly a century later, we’re still carrying that work forward—volunteering, building community, developing women as leaders, and creating meaningful change right here at home.

The 125th anniversary of the Junior League is a celebration of where we’ve been—and an invitation to be part of where we’re going.

🧼 Help Us Make The 10th Year of Stacy’s Soap Drive the Best Yet! 💜

The Junior League of Greater Elmira-Corning is once again partnering with Stacy’s Soap Drive to collect essential toiletries for local victims of domestic violence.

This year is especially meaningful as Stacy’s Soap Drive celebrates its 10th anniversary! We’d love to help make this milestone year their biggest collection yet. 💜

📅 September 21–October 18

Every donation can help provide comfort and essential supplies to someone rebuilding their life after experiencing domestic violence.

Since we don’t currently have a secure location for a collection bin, we’re happy to coordinate drop-off or pick-up for anyone who would like to donate.
