We have had alot going on recently and things are a whirlwind, but rescue never stops.
A week or so ago we were asked about a dog who was hurt in a dog fight and needed help. We received the pictures below so we began to ask questions. During the process we found out there is a family of dogs living at a business near Bowman sc.. The dogs have been there a while some were even born on the property. Some you can touch , some you can't but none are people aggressive or dog aggressive when a female is NOT in heat. This is how the small guy below was injured. A larger male came on scene with a young female. The business has been feeding these guys, the employees bring food and even share their lunch with them . These dogs are not in the area of the road to be hit by cars and know to stay in the area of the business. It's approximately 6 to 8 dogs and teenage pups, that have been seen. Well with in the last few days mom brought out approx 4 week old puppies, so now those babies are on scene and need help. .
Here is where you, our supporters come in. We have no room for this amout of dogs and puppies, no one does. The dogs have never been in a kennel, a house, a car etc. So that life will only stress them out. The business and employees have agreed to continue to care for the pups even allow us to provide a shelter set up and place it in a safe area . We want to get them vetted to stop the cycle. Each one needs to be spayed and neutered , vaccinated and given flea and tick meds. Obviously the life they have is not what most consider "Ideal" but they have been surviving a long time and will continue to fight and reproduce if nothing is done. It may not be a perfect solution. I am sure we will get complaints from alot of people regarding this decision, but doing nothing is not the answer. We will obviously have to trap the dogs and possibly transport entire trap to the vet. We will need a vet willing to help in this situation and the finances available to make it happen. A large kennel and dog house will be set up in the area on cement after surgery for each pup to be assisted in recovery. The employees and business manager have agreed.
Please feel free to provide constructive criticism, ideas , information or anything that may be helpful for “The Bowman project”. This will definitely be a big project and will not happen over night, but starting to work on the other side of the shelter door and STOP the stray population is a step in the right direction. Thank you to the business for allowing this to happen and taking care of these dogs so they are not starving to death, being hit by cars and being a problem in the community. You did not just say "Someone needs to do something”…..you became that “Someone”. Thank you.
