A few days ago I got a message / phone call from a friend telling me a story of how she was riding down a road , she never takes , and witnessed a dog being thrown from a Silver truck ( we have a little more info , but that is being investigated) and she picked him up. She tells me she has no place to put him and asked if weI could take. Into rescue. Of course we are full, but I asked for pics and any information so a post could be made . We'll when I received the pics , I knew I had seen this dog before posted. I explained this to the finder after seeing the pics This dog has an owner , he was missing , fingers crossed the owner was found.
I was at work , so ended up sharing a post to my page( as I felt the pup had an owner and rescue would not be needed ) that Megan Renee posted , with the topic" This dog was possible stolen months ago and dumped. " you just get a feeling even after seeing so many . I even told the finder thats what I felt may have happend. In less than 1 hour the owners see the post. On my page ITS HER DOG. I get pics, information etc.from the owner I place finder and owner in contact with each other , long story short Tank is reunited with his family! Should be a happy ending right? ............Not in dog rescue.
We were all over excited when Tank seen his mom and we knew they were together again.This joy was short lived I get a call the next morning that Tank is being very aggressive and trying to bite, the owner did not feel safe keeping him. Again I explained a foster would be needed.and even then it may bot be safe The owner was desperate , Animal Control was called to possibly have him Eauthanized. Ac seen my post so they called to ask if we were helping. When we received the call from Animal control , thank goodness, it was explained the story, as we knew it and we felt that something was going on and he needed to decompress, pain meds etc. , they agreed and not go immediately to get the pup and give us some time.
During this time we needed a true evaluation of this pup. The owners were being given tips on things that may help , we spoke to several people , trainers etc. In the mean time A foster stepped foward Laura Hill , Memphis Hill Maverick Hill and John Hill all agreed to give this boy a chance , his story touched their heart. Megan and the finder also have a foster lined up untill the 14th then he would go to the permanent fosters , which is also 2min from my house with 2ac of 6foot fence for Tank to decompress .So Megan and finder Laci went back out to asses Tank and see if he could be safely transported. The short answer was NO. They were not comfortable with him. I was on the phone most of the rime and the biggest concern was no one get hurt. I did feel like the signs he was showing from conversation and video were possibly pain, anxiety and fear. Again long story short with meds on board for pain and anxiety , Tank was a different dog when we got a call back that night. We were still not 100% convinced, but things definitely improved per the owner.
We still agreed to accept Tank into rescue if he needed placement and owner agreed it was for the best. The next day our fosters went to Tank , he barked a little at the " Stranger Danger " but nothing crazy. Tank was given treats, petted , loaded into the car, in Laura's lap the entire was home and had a wonderful night and Tank will be fine Thanks to the hard work and dedicated mentality of the people who helped.
We will never know the Trauma Tank suffered being missing for so long , being thrown from a truck and has definitely been neglected during this time. Please know dogs only way to let us know things like I am in pain, I dont want to be messed with , I need to be left alone is to growl , nip , bark etc. This does not automatically mean they are aggressive , but it does mean listen to the signs. Tank appears to have had a large chain or something around his neck causing an intention, we hope there is no l9ng term nerve damage , he has a wheezing cough that could be secondary to trauma , he is obviously uncomfortable on one side , we assume from being thrown onto the road. He does not appear to have life threatening issues , but will need vet care and recovery. The physical wounds we can heal , we are expecting a long road to mental recovery from the trauma he has experienced. But for now Tank is with his fosters , loving life and is safe with in our rescue Saving Animals Southern Style Rescue & Sanctuary. We can not save lives with out fosters.
