Elko Trail Systems

Elko Trail Systems championing systems that limit impact while elevating recreational assets ETS is dedicated to organizing and championing off-road trails.

Elko Trail Systems began as Elko Trail System Initiative (ETSI), four community organizations that pooled their talents to advance Lamoille Summit Trail System, a single-track trail system between Elko and Spring Creek. ETSI expanded their support to the Humboldt-Rubies Trail, a backbone trail from Carlin to Lamoille. These efforts gained significant support and the momentum led to the formation of Elko Trail Systems.

Tyrone Minton smoothed out the chunky sections left in the wake of the fire crew training, helping bring the tread into shape. Big thank you to Phrank and Jarrod for putting in the hand work to finish it off. Rain clouds are in the forecast - hoping 203 sits right under them.

Today, personnel from multiple agencies participated in fireline construction training at the Lamoille Summit Trail System, led by the Wildland Fire Service. The training highlighted skills that translate directly to sustainable trail construction and stewardship on our public lands.

Tomorrow from 9:00 am to noon, Elko trail leads will follow up. All volunteers are welcome! Come swing a tool, hike in the tread, ride through the corridor, or just check out the progress.

Next trail effort is Saturday, June 6th at 9:00 am, led by Tyrone Minton.

The remainder of 201 is about 95% pruning work. We’re looking for 2–3 people to help prune, with a second two-person crew following behind to remove duff and smooth the tread. If all goes well, we should make it to the 205, which will involve similar construction.

Please note: three white flags mark areas that are off-limits following the latest migratory bird survey. Do not enter those areas.

Email elkotrails.com or text Leslie at 775-388-4247 for more information or to join the effort.

Awesome Trail Build on Saturday!!! Elko Trail Systems

201 is coming along, some more side hill work needed in a couple spots but it’s rideable.

Our biological survey will expire so please do not cross the white flags as those areas are not permitted for further disturbance at this time.

Second day of LSTS construction in the books. Seeing trail take shape on the ground after over a decade of work to make it possible is pretty special.

They’ll be heading out again this Friday, the 15th at 9:00 am. Whether you want to swing a tool, ride in the tread, or just see the progress for yourself - come join us. Every set of hands, hooves, and wheels helps move the project forward.

We’ll be back out at Hilltop tomorrow if you have a hand to lend, want to help scratch in trail, or just want to come see the lay of the land and where this system is headed. We’re cleared to build nearly three miles of trail over the next week and a half!

Trail Days. Come support us making Elko Trail Systems

Saturday, May 9th start about 9am.

Boots and pants recommend, trail tools provided.

Very important: we don’t have all of either trail fully cleared or released for construction. Only work on trail approved by on site trail steward(s).

Take the Jiggs Hwy (NV 228) 3.5mi to Hilltop Rd and turn right. Trailhead is on the right

Figuring it out! Today our Elko Velo trail leads started scratching in the first trail to take off from Hilltop Trailhead.

We could use some volunteers tomorrow, Saturday, May 9th, between 9:00 am and noon:
• Riders (bike or equine) to help pack in the first half mile
• Additional volunteers to help scratch in more of the route

There are portions of the trail corridor we cannot work in due to seasonally sensitive wildlife, so please ensure you check in with the trail leads before heading out.
