Special Spaces creates dream bedroom makeovers for dependent children ages 2-19 with cancer who are within one year of treatment. A very special space just to be a kid! It's been nearly two weeks since Franky's Dream Bedroom Makeover - check out the behind-the-scenes look at what goes into these special days.

Franky has been patiently awaiting his R & B themed bedroom since late last year. Our amazing sponsors at Northwestern Mutual took time out of their weekend to show up and show out for this young man. A record mural, sneaker feature, and the perfect wall-display of music artists, make this room a place where Franky can rest, recover, and just be a kid.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

Yesterday was a day for Riley! Her dreams of an ethereal beach vibes room was brought to life in the most beautiful way. More than anything, Riley wanted an hanging chair in her new space and a place to work on her crafts. So, our amazing team of volunteers made it happen - turning her closet into a craft room and hanging her wicker chair in the perfect spot.

Riley hasn’t been able to spend much time in her space, over the last couple of years, due to continued treatment. We hope more than anything that this will now be YOUR PLACE TO HEAL! You deserve to be a kid. And shoutout to Riley’s brother, Keegan, for the most amazing reaction to his sibling refresh. Cancer impacts the whole family!

✨ Dream Bedroom Makeover Day! Meet Riley! ✨

Today, we’re celebrating Riley, a remarkable 17-year-old who has been bravely battling leukemia since her diagnosis in July 2024.

Even during her bedroom interview—which took place from her hospital room—Riley’s creativity and excitement for a space of her own shined through. She sees the world through a lens of abundance and possibility, and her vibrant spirit is impossible to miss.

Riley loves crafting and expressing herself through art. She shared thoughtful ideas and inspiration, all centered around having a space that reflects her personality and provides a place to rest and create.

She’s drawn to colorful designs and cozy spaces where she can relax and let her imagination run free. Through it all, Riley has shown incredible strength and resilience.

Today's transformation is made possible through the generous support of Mortenson, whose partnership is helping turn Riley’s dream into a reality.

Stay tuned as an incredible team of volunteers comes together to create a space as inspiring as Riley herself. We can’t wait to share the reveal!

Saturday was all about Franky.

Thanks to Special Spaces, Franky now has a dream bedroom designed just for him, a place where he can relax, recharge, and simply be a teenager. The smile on his face when he saw the room for the first time said it all.

A huge thank you to the incredible team from Northwestern Mutual, who continue to show up and make a difference. Having completed more than 10 dream bedrooms with us, they don't just support the mission—they live it.

Special thanks as well to Jessica Zinger Doolittle from HDR for creating another amazing design. Time and time again, Jessica transforms a room into something truly special, and this space was no exception.

Moments like these remind us why Special Spaces exists: to create dream bedrooms for children with cancer and give them a space that is uniquely theirs.

✨ Dream Bedroom Makeover Day! Meet Franky! ✨

Today, we’re making a long-awaited dream come true for Franky. 💙💚

Franky has been patiently waiting for his dream bedroom makeover since late last year, and now that his family is settled into their new home, it’s finally time to create a space designed just for him.

Franky’s vision is all about a calm, chill vibe that reflects who he is. He loves sports, especially baseball, basketball, and football. In fact, it was during a high school sports physical that his cancer was first detected. Through it all, Franky has continued to show strength and determination.

His new space will celebrate the things he loves most - his passion for art, his appreciation for 90's R&B music, and his favorite color green. The goal is to create a retreat where he can relax, recharge, and enjoy being a teenager.

Today, an incredible team of volunteers will come together to transform Franky’s room into a space that truly reflects his personality, style, and spirit.
