Earlier this week Board member Jim Osterhaus and Coordinator Kelsi Davis attended the 2026 Clayton County Foundation for the Future grant award ceremony. Thanks to CCFF and their generous community donors, the Clayton County Energy District has funds for 2 Energy Efficiency Demonstration Days at local hardware stores!
These funds allow CCED to provide $20 store credit certificates for customers purchasing qualifying weatherization materials like caulk, spray foam, and door seals. The first demonstration day occurred May 2nd at Fisk Farm and Home in Monona, but the second will be coming this fall. If you have suggestions for a Clayton County hardware store with a great selection of weatherization materials please comment below!
Thank you CCFF for supporting our work to reduce energy burden in Clayton County!

CCED is entering year 10 of serving Clayton County communities, providing resources and technical assistance to reduce energy costs and make affordable energy sources more inclusive. After 10 years of dedicated work, CCED must now decide how to move forward, especially with the addition of a full-time Coordinator increasing organizational capacity.

On Monday, April 13 the CCED Board gathered to discuss ideas for the future during a strategic planning session. This preliminary step considered CCED’s history, current work, and core messages which will guide a more formal strategic plan outlining efforts for the next 1-2 years.

On February 25th the Clayton County Energy District (CCED) hosted local leaders to discuss the opportunity for savings through geothermal energy systems and federal funding. The event featured an expert panel discussion of two local installers, Northeast Iowa Mechanical and Geothermal Eco Options Inc., plus a presentation from Clean Energy Districts of Iowa REAP Coach Steve Hopkins.
Panelists covered the basics of geothermal technology, how it works, and financial opportunities. Geothermal energy systems offer significant savings; typical payback periods for large users range from 3-7 years. With continually rising costs across the board for rural residents, any opportunity to reduce expenses for foundational community entities is crucial.

Last week CCED Coordinator Kelsi Davis and several other members of the Clean Energy Districts of Iowa network traveled to the Capitol in Des Moines for an Energy Advocacy Day. The group met with legislators from across the state to advocate for bills proposed in the Iowa legislature that would create a more affordable and equitable energy future for Iowans. Housing is not truly affordable without affordable, transparent energy costs.

Midwest Building Decarbonization Coalition organized this event following our coalition's success in advocating for the Iowa Finance Authority to add Green Building Certification incentives to the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program.
