A delegation from Centro de Información attended Latino Unity Day in Springfield earlier this month. It was an important opportunity to connect with elected leaders and immigrant-serving organizations from across Illinois to advocate for Latino equity and the needs of immigrant communities statewide.

Special thanks to Senators Don Harmon and Cristina Castro for meeting with our delegation. During these conversations, we advocated for full funding of Illinois Access to Justice, the Immigrant Legal Support Program, and the Immigrant Services Line Item. We also voiced support for SB1995, an amendment to the Personal Information Protection Act that would help safeguard immigration and citizenship status information for Illinois residents.

At Centro, we remain committed to uplifting our communities through advocacy, collaboration, and action that protects and empowers immigrant families across Illinois 💙

🎉 We had such an amazing time at our Carpentersville Open House!

Our community came together at our office located at 3036 Wakefield Dr. in Carpentersville for an afternoon filled with music, food, prizes, and community resources. It was wonderful seeing so many families, friends, and neighbors enjoying time together while learning about programs and support available in the community.

Thank you to all of our partners and collaborators who joined us and helped make this event so special. We also want to give a special thank you to Juanita's Antojitos for the delicious food and drinks enjoyed by our community. 🌮🥤

And of course, thank you to everyone who celebrated our 5 years in Carpentersville with us. We look forward to continuing to grow and serve our community together! 💙

🎉 We had an incredible time at our Centro de Mayo Open House celebration at our Elgin Main Office!

Our community enjoyed music, food, and fun with their families while learning more about our programs and valuable resources.

A special shoutout to Grupo De Danza Folklorica Quetzaly for their amazing performance, and to Taqueria Chapala for the delicious food everyone enjoyed.

💐 Thank you to all who supported our 2026 Annual Spring Luncheon! It was a wonderful and meaningful event where we heard from our keynote, Peter Larsen, a Minneapolis civil rights attorney, about the impacts of federal immigration enforcement activity in our respective communities. We also recognized the Elgin Area Immigrant Alliance for the important work they are doing on the ground, as well as Cherryl Strathmann and Laurie Schmidgall for their generosity to Centro's mission. Last week, we had the opportunity to host a special luncheon to celebrate our Centro volunteers and thank them for the dedication they bring to our work every day 💙

Their time, energy, and commitment play a vital role in supporting our programs and serving our community. Our volunteers are and continue to be an essential part of our mission.

We also had the privilege of welcoming Cherryl Fritz Strathmann and taking a moment to recognize her and her late husband for their longstanding support of Centro. Their commitment to our mission has been deeply meaningful. Even during a time of loss, their family chose to honor that legacy by supporting Centro, a gesture that truly reflects the spirit of community and generosity.

We are sincerely grateful for their support and for the example they have set. It is a powerful reminder of what community looks like and the impact we can continue to make together.
