Registration is now open for National Youth Leadership Training in 2022!

The Denver Area Council is proud to offer four opportunities to attend NYLT this year. Each course runs a full week, Sunday-Saturday. Attendance in the entire course is required for successful completion.

Courses will be held at Big Horn Encampment on Magness Camp on McNeil Scout Ranch at Peaceful Valley

Session 1: June 12-18, 2022
Session 2: June 19-25, 2022
Session 3: June 26-July 2, 2022
Session 4: July 10-16 2022

NYLT will be back in 2021, now at Camp Cortland Dietler! We are now actively recruiting youth Scouts and adult Scouters to be part of our leadership team.

Important information on the impact of COVID-19 on National Youth Leadership Training in the Denver Area Council.

Scouting is committed to keeping kids safe. Unfortunately this means we will not be conducting NYLT this summer.

On the night of June 24, 2020, we received information from our state and local health governments that make it impossible for us to offer NYLT or summer camp for the 2020 season.

Needless to say, I’m disappointed to not be offering NYLT, but health and safety of all is a top priority.

As we have communicated from the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic, if we were not allowed to offer NYLT in 2020 we will be providing a 100% refund for payments made to the Denver Area Council for camp. The camping registrar will be contacting participant families over the next week regarding your refund.

Thanks again for your support and understanding. I would also like to thank my NYLT youth and adult staff for working incredibly hard over the past year developing and re-developing the NYLT sessions to accommodate all the changes we have faced. NYLT is run by a volunteer team – they are not paid – and give up countless hours to support the program they love. They have done everything in their power to develop a strong Scouting experience. I'm so proud of each and every one.

Check back in the Fall for details on NYLT 2021. We will come back from this and will continue to train the best of the best Scouts in Colorado to become outstanding leaders.

Scouting is committed to keeping kids safe.

For 2020, due to COVID-19 concerns, NYLT will be conducted at Camp Cortlandt Dietler on Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch. Camp Tahosa is not in operation this summer.

Additionally, due to the recommendations of federal, state, and local health officials, as well as the safety standards of the Boy Scouts of America, we are unable to safely offer National Youth Leadership courses at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch before July 4.

We are rescheduling our courses to run in July 2020. Information will be going out to families that have already registered to provide information on how to change their sign-up. New registrations will be slotted into the new dates.

This was a difficult decision for us to make, but as the pandemic continues, we want to ensure we can provide a safe program full of adventure for our participants, leaders, and staff.
