Building a stronger animal services system means giving communities the resources and support they need to care for animals.
Today, Animal Protection New Mexico is releasing Animal Services in New Mexico: A Needs Assessment for the North Central Region (2026), the first assessment of its kind in New Mexico.
Based on 100+ interviews, Tribal engagement, site visits, and extensive research, the report examines animal shelters, animal control programs, equine programs, and animal-related disaster preparedness and response.
While the assessment focuses on north central New Mexico, its findings point to challenges facing communities across the stateāand the need for a coordinated statewide approach.
