Chuco Town Roller Derby

LEAGUE FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT HERE: normally I don't announce who is posting but feel this is rather important as derby continues to market as a whole as "all inclusive". The discussion around Champs has evidence that proves otherwise. We NEED to continue to work toward inclusivity. I opted out of WFTDA and for Open Gender when creating this league because I want to keep working toward reaching an all inclusive goal. We are a BIPOC league and I founded this league with the intention of making our members feel safe enough to go fill in roster spots for other leagues, BE active members of other leagues, play different rulesets, and spread their wings so they can experience different leagues and different cultures with the goal of ensuring we're keeping the door open for anyone of any background. We hope we can inspire others to do the same. We hope that black and Borderless skaters feel supported in their valid concerns, and we hope that they feel supported.

Decided this deserved its own post. But we're just so grateful for all of the donors that helped us raise $235 for Ronald McDonald House El Paso (RMCH EP) for Giving Day! We also made an error in the miles we skated in order to achieve this feat; we left out a 5k that had been completed on day one of our skate-A-Thon, which brings us to approximately 30 miles completed by our league! We look forward to continuing our community outreach and supporting local charities! Please consider donating to local organizations such as RMCH EP at elpasogivingday.org

Some of our Chuco Town members made a trip to Juárez, MX. To the support Upside Track Tournament by reffing and playing! We could not be more grateful to have been invited by Pink Bullets Roller Derby and ALL-STAR JUAREZ ROLLER DERBY to help staff and to roster for games! Our goal as a league is to become one with which we can be both fierce and gentle. The culture of roller derby in Juarez and throughout Mexico is the blueprint we aim to follow and we could not be any more thankful for the opportunity to be included in the Mexican Derby community!

Thank you everyone that donated for such a great cause! Unfortunately rain made it a little difficult to get miles in some days, but we did it regardless! This was our first major charity fundraiser and though our league is small, we hope it makes a huge impact for our local kiddos!

We'll be there this weekend! Go support derby!
