This is an El Paso, Texas Chapter of a National Grassroots Advocacy Organized Community recognized & founded in 1982. As part founders, supporters, & enforcers of the ADA ( Americans w/ Disabilities Act) our struggle continues. Our first & on going agenda: OUR HOMES NOT NURSING HOMES! Promotes based attendant services, so people with disabilities can live in their own homes instead of being forced

into nursing homes & other institutions. During this we accomplished: COMMUNITY BASED ALTERNATIVE & MONEY FOLLWS THE PERSON. won the second Visitability (basic access in single family housing) ordinance in the nation. Survey housing, changing policies & codes all are OUR efforts in HOUSING. Third on going agenda is WE WILL RIDE! While trying to get access to regular public transportation we obtained Lift Services. Fourth on going agenda is ACCES IS A CIVIL RIGHT! Access to the community is critical as We have worked for public. Businesses, city, and state facilities to provide access for people with disabilities. Curb cuts also have been a major focus of ADAPT.
