Please allow me to share a little of my personal homeschooling journey with my village.
When I first started homeschooling my son, I was terrified he would miss out on so much. I was told I was being selfish, that he would never make friends, and that I was making a huge mistake. But I followed my gut anyway, even though I didn't fully understand what I was doing or what the future would look like.
On Friday, as I sat signing diplomas, I found myself completely overwhelmed by God's faithfulness. Not only has he not missed out on anything, but we have gained so much more than I ever imagined. This path hasn't always been the easiest, but it has absolutely been the right one for our family.
If you're thinking about homeschooling and feel lost or overwhelmed—if you don't even know where to start—it's okay. Just start. Listen to your gut. Nobody loves your children more than you do, and nobody will advocate harder for their education. It's okay to figure things out as you go, and it's okay to find your people and figure it out together.
The result of our homeschooling journey so far is a very curious, intelligent, hilarious, sweet, and tender-hearted 10-year-old. We couldn't be more proud of him.
Before the ceremony, he kept telling me he was going to make weird faces and jump off the stage when he received his diploma. I finally gave in and said, "Fine, but please just give me one good picture. That's all I ask." Instead, he surprised me.
As I handed him his diploma, he kissed my hand.
In that moment, my heart completely melted. He has always been such a gentleman, and moments like that remind me just how blessed I am to be his mom and how grateful I am that we chose this journey. We are so incredibly honored to be his parents, and excited to see what God has in store for this next chapter.
Middle school, here we come! 🥳🧑🏻🎓💖
