On Memorial Day, we honor the memory of those who perished while serving our country and are no longer with us.

Navy Pharmacist's Mate Third Class
Charles Victor Porras Jr., 20, was killed under machine gun fire while treating and carrying back four of the wounded men before he himself was fatally struck down by a burst of Japanese fire on September 22, 1944 in the Peleliu Palau Islands.

Marine Lance Cpl. Jose Holguin Jr., 18, was killed in action on March 1, 1967 in Vietnam.

Navy SN Jose Hernandez Jr., 20, was killed in action on April 13, 1970 in Vietnam.

Air Force Major Rodolfo I. Rodriguez, 34, was killed in a bombing in Pakistan on September 10, 2008.

Army CW2 Toby Trujillo, 38, died in 2015 while on active duty. Trujillo served tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

These are just a few of the brave who came out of Ysleta and paid the ultimate price while serving their country. May they never be forgotten.

Our deepest condolences to the family of Coach Donnelly.

🕊️ We extend our deepest condolences on the passing of Coach William Bernard Donnelly, who passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the age of 79.

Known simply as “Coach Donnelly” to generations of players and colleagues, he was a respected and enduring figure in the El Paso area high school football community throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He is especially remembered for his impactful years as a football coach at Ysleta High School from 1985 to 1994, where he helped shape not only athletes, but young men through his leadership, discipline, and passion for the game.

His legacy will live on in the countless lives he influenced on and off the field. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, former players, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

~ Rest in Peace Coach Donnelly 🕊️

Throwback Thursday to three different Ysleta Grade (Elementary) School buildings. The first two predate the then modern buildings. The demolition of that building, which also served as a courthouse in Ysleta, allowed the ruble to be used as a foundation to the then new building. The second expansion to the school led to the buildings and cafeteria see. Along Alameda and Harris. The last picture shows the demolition of the school, most notably where the candy store was. Lorie made a lot of kids happy thru that window.

Who were your teachers if you attended Ysleta Grade/Elementary?

The current plot of land, which is vacant when it’s not littered, is still owned by YISD.
