Thank you CEA member Sairy Cohen, for coordinating an exclusive meet-and-greet with NASA engineer and astronaut José Hernández for our Young Achievers Forum graduates on April 18.

Hernández’s journey, from migrant farm worker to astronaut, is a powerful testament to perseverance, resilience, and the unwavering support of family. After being turned down 11 times by NASA, he continued to push forward until he achieved his dream. His story reflects the very message we instill in our YAF students: everything is possible, and your current circumstances do not define your future.

Congratulations to our Young Achievers Forum Partner, New Mexico State University

Dr. Tony Marin, our NMSU YAF champion, shared that the university once again earned the Carnegie Community Engagement Designation, an elective designation awarded by the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching that highlights an institution’s commitment to community engagement.

NMSU was first awarded the designation in 2015, and at the time was one of 47 public institutions receiving it for the first time and one of 361 colleges and universities nationwide to carry the classification. With its 2026 designation, NMSU is among approximately 277 U.S. colleges and universities receiving this acknowledgment of the faculty, staff, students and others who are involved.

An inspiring evening with CommUNITY en Acción at the El Paso Museum of Art.

Our March Membership Meeting brought members together for a meaningful experience centered around culture, connection, and community. We had the opportunity to enjoy a private tour of the Frida Kahlo: Sus Fotos exhibition, guided by incredible leadership and insight from Ben Fyffe, Director of Museums and Cultural Affairs, and Eddie Hayes, Director of the El Paso Museum of Art.

From exploring powerful visual storytelling to learning more about the museum’s vision and future, the evening reminded us of the importance of investing in spaces that celebrate art, history, and community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us—your presence continues to strengthen the impact of CommUNITY en Acción.
