Coni is the Executive Director of and a Sociology Professor at where she has dedicated more than 15 years to education and advocacy. As a Latina immigrant, her life’s work reflects a deep commitment to serving vulnerable populations, particularly women experiencing homelessness and families impacted by social exclusion and migration.

welcomes Monica S. Abrell, retired FBI agent as a Pláticas panelists at our 2025 ¡Sí Se Puede! Conference – Latinas en Acción: A Call to Serve.

With over 25 years of service in the FBI, Monica led and investigated complex cases involving bank robberies, crimes against children, white-collar crime, public corruption, and drug cartels. Before her distinguished career in law enforcement, she served as a Mathematics teacher at Burges High School, shaping young minds.

A first-generation college graduate and STEM trailblazer, Monica earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from The University of Texas at Austin long before “STEM” became a movement. Her journey is one of courage, commitment, and pride in paving the way for Hispanic women in underrepresented fields.

Lt. Morales was born and raised in El Paso. She has dedicated 18 years to public service with the serving her community with strength, compassion, and leadership. In addition to her fire service career, she has worked 16 years as a Paramedic and 7 years as a Registered Nurse, combining medical expertise with frontline experience to provide exceptional care and guidance in every situation.

As one of the few women in her field, Lt. Morales continues to break barriers and inspire others through her example of courage, dedication, and service. A proud Latina and mother of two daughters, she is committed to empowering the next generation of women to pursue their goals fearlessly and to lead with purpose.

welcomes Commissioner Jackie Butler as a Pláticas panelists at ¡Sí Se Puede! Conference – Latinas en Acción: A Call to Serve.

A proud mother of two and lifelong resident of El Paso, Commissioner Butler has dedicated her life to strengthening the community she calls home. After graduating from Mountain View High School, she became a first-generation college graduate from Vassar College and went on to earn her MBA from UTEP.

Her career reflects a deep commitment to public service and progress. From her work at the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, where she served as Vice President of Government Relations, to her leadership at the Medical Center of the Americas Foundation as Senior Director of Operations, Jackie has helped advance economic development and healthcare innovation across our region. She also served as U.S. Director of BIO El Paso–Juárez, coordinating the bi-national COVID-19 response.

Today, as El Paso County Commissioner for Precinct 1, she continues to champion policies that expand opportunity, improve access to healthcare, and strengthen local communities.

Nicole is the founder of Parade on Main, a civic strategy lab focused on equity, systems change, and public design. In 2014, she made history as the first Latina in the world to serve as a Chief Resilience Officer, leading El Paso’s strategy under the 100 Resilient Cities initiative.

For more than two decades, Nicole has worked in service of her home community, advancing policy, design, advocacy, and transformation across housing, climate, and recovery. Her work is rooted in justice, shaped by lived experience, and unapologetically people-first.

Through Parade, she equips cities, institutions, and especially women with tools that turn complexity into , without losing soul in the process.

Her mission is simple but radical: design better systems, amplify misfit voices, and make public leadership more human…and more .

A proud El Paso native, Alejandra is a graduate of Loretto Academy, The University of Texas at Austin, and the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners. She built a thriving restaurant that served the community for over 20 years and was recognized as the 2022 SBA Women in Business Champion of the Year for her entrepreneurial success and commitment to economic growth in El Paso.

Her dedication to lifelong learning led her to complete the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative Education Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and her leadership voice has reached national platforms, including the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) Legislative Summit in Washington, D.C.

Today, Alejandra brings her values of honesty, integrity, and accountability to City Hall, where she is committed to addressing critical infrastructure needs, enhancing quality of life, promoting economic development, and ensuring that residents feel heard and valued.

Her vision for a more vibrant and united El Paso reflects the very essence of this year’s theme: Latinas en Acción – A Call to Serve.

is proud to welcome Aida Ponce, Chief Outreach and Wellness Officer at as a Pláticas panelists for the ¡Sí Se Puede! Conference - Latinas en Acción – A Call to Serve, celebrating .

With more than 20 years of experience, Aida has led transformative initiatives in diabetes prevention and management, reproductive health, teen mental health, and COVID-19 education and outreach. She has placed Community Health Workers at the center of her programs, building a strong workforce that expands access to care and strengthens families across El Paso and Hudspeth County.

Aida is a Certified Wellness Practitioner, Certified Community Health Worker Instructor, Lifestyle Coach, Well-being and Positive Psychology Coach, and Emotional Intelligence Coach. She completed leadership programs at MIT Sloan School of Management, UCLA, and the National Wellness Institute. Her authentic and collaborative leadership style has created sustainable change and advanced community wellness throughout the El Paso region.

Her leadership and service come together as a powerful reflection of this year’s theme for Hispanic Heritage Month: Latinas en Acción – A Call to Serve.
