Province Lake Association

Province Lake Association Province Lake Association is a non-profit organization set up to help protect/preserve Province Lake in Carroll County, New Hampshire. It was created in 1972.

ABOUT THE LAKE
Province Lake is located in southern Carroll County, New Hampshire. The lake is approximately 1008 acres and has a maximum depth of approximately 17 feet so there are no coldwater fish species in the lake. Three towns border the lake: South Parsonsfield, Maine and Wakefield and Effingham, New Hampshire. As with many lakes in New Hampshire the shoreline is almost completely ringed wi

th cottages and there is an abundance of water craft on the lake. Although not as congested as Lake Winnipesaukee boat traffic is increasing yearly. It is amazing that the water quality is very good and there is NO infestation of milfoil or other exotics.

Hi folks,

A fellow member found some dock pieces and writes ...

Four pieces of wooden dock drifted into my swim area today. They are approximately 58” x 43”. I have dragged onto my beach as far as I can, hopefully they will not drift away again. Please call Paula at 484-459-8718 to retrieve them.

Yesterday afternoon, the loons from the island defended their nest from a singloon loon (un-paired adult loon). They fought near the island for quite awhile before going to Paul and Lynn's dock. Attached is the video they took yesterday.

This morning while kayaking, Paul saw that a loon was back on the nest!

Our Loon Ranger, Donna Luce, reports that the loons are nesting near Hobbs Brook on the floating raft. Two eggs are present that should hatch in about two weeks.

In addition, another loon was spotted today nesting on the island!

As always, please give the loons plenty of space and be cautious when boating as we may have some potential chics in the coming weeks!

Hi All,

As most of you are aware, we have been awarded some grant monies to place a vegetative buffer along 600 feet of the beach on Rte 153. This buffer helps reduce pollutants from getting into the lake. We completed 300 feet of this last year and will finish the rest this year.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

See the flyer below on timing and how to volunteer. Since PDF doesn't work on FB, we have included a link to the volunteer form below as well. Please consider joining some of your fellow lake goers and come and help for any amount of time that you are able to on June 30th.

Regards,
The PLA

Hello Province Lake Community,

With the ice now gone and things starting to come back to life around the lake, I am guessing you are thinking about getting back to the Lake to open things up for the season. Unlike past years, we are not going to do a huge mailing solicitation for membership. This email is our primary communication, with a few letters being mailed to those we don’t have an email address for. Last years mailing went out to about 500 households, cost us about $1,300 and to be honest, didn’t generate many new members.

As you know, we as an association and lake community have many challenges ahead of us and we need all the support, both financial and in volunteers that we can get. Here is a few of the things the PLA has been and is working on:
• NH DES grant funding to create a vegetative buffer along 600 feet of Rte 153 to keep sediment and pollutants from washing into the lake. Phase 2 is scheduled for June 30th, so mark your calendars and come and volunteer. More on this later.
• Water quality sampling and testing to track the lake health.
• Watershed survey to identify areas to focus Best Management Practices to eliminate sediment/nutrient loading to the lake. Again, more on this is forth coming at the annual meeting on August 8th, so again mark your calendar.

The Board of the PLA is made up of all volunteers, however many activities require resources to accomplish those activities and that is where we need both funds and bodies to help. For those of you that join year after year after year, we thank you. For everyone, please consider joining the Association, the minimum is only $25, but more is always welcome. It is a very small investment to help with the lake and say you at least are participating.

You can join in a few ways …
First, you can go to this link … https://provincelake.org/about/membership/ . Fill in the form online and mail a check or pay via PayPal. For PayPal, currently you need to submit the form and then click the donate button on the webpage or scan the QR code. We are working to get PayPal linked to the form.
Second, from the same page you link to above you can print the membership form, complete it, enclose a check and mail the form and check to us.
Third, you can hand a check or cash to any of the board members.
Please join and help your lake and get your friends and neighbors to join as well.

Regards,
Jon Samuelson
PLA VP & Membership Chair
