Our Scouts recently put their skills on demonstration at a local Cub Scout event, teaching the younger Scouts how to start a fire without matches or lighters. Using flint and steel strikers, it only takes one good spark to ignite a little pocket/dryer lint, which provides great tinder underneath small kindling. Sounds easy, right? But there's actually a lot of technique involved in this vital outdoor skill. And even more important is knowing when, where, and why we start fires, and how to manage & extinguish them safely once they're burning. The younger Scouts had a lot of fun learning this skill, and our Scouts had a great time demonstrating and teaching!

Going on a campout takes lots of planning. Our Scouts develop leadership skills by planning menus, developing duty rosters, and outlining activities for the campout. Trained adult leaders help guide and coach the Scouts, but the Scouts themselves are responsible for planning their troop activities.

Our next Court of Honor ceremony is scheduled for Monday, May 15th, beginning at 6:45 in the Eden Church of Edwardsville Fellowship Hall (lower level of the church). This is a public ceremony; friends and family are encouraged to support their Scouts! Rank advancements and merit badges earned in the last quarter will be presented to Scouts in both troops (Troop 8027 - Girls, and Troop 8031 - Boys). We'll also introduce new Scouts in both troops.

Following the Court of Honor, stay for refreshments and visiting. Each Scout family is asked to bring something to share for the refreshments table.

Scouts should wear their "Class A" uniforms, including neckerchief and merit badge sash.
