A beautiful memory from February 15, 2017 PART of Edinburg meeting.
Today, The Pan American Round Table of Edinburg recognized it's Woman of the Year, Mrs. Dora Garza. Lydia Rodriguez Chavana introduced her and thanked her for her service to PART and for being an example to all who have come after her. Her family also shared wonderful stories about their mother and grandmother. Omar Jaime shared how his mother loved and supported her husband, Dr. Omar Garza, through pharmacy school and medical school and how she lovingly raised her children during that time. Alma followed with a story of why 9 years elapsed between her and her brother Chris, and if you know Alma A. Garza, you know it ended with all of us laughing. Dee Dee's daughter, Denise, shared how her grandmother picked her up after school and how she wanted to be just like her grandma when she grows up. Nellie told of how her mother always took the time to listen to her children and how she always would stop what she was doing and give them her undivided attention, when they needed someone to listen to them. Chris talked about his dreaded nap time as any active little boy does, and how his mother made him be still, warning him of the witch that would come if he didn't. Chris's son thanked his grandma for always lovingly helping him with his homework when he needed it. It was a beautiful luncheon, with beautiful memories of Mrs. Dora Garza, her life, her service and her family. Thank you for the beautiful photo albums and memories Nellie Martin and thank you for the wonderful presentation on Colombia Janie Johnston Lopez.
