Juneteenth commemorates the day in Galveston, Texas that the last enslaved African-Americans learned of their freedom nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It became a Federal Holiday in 2021 and is an observed city holiday in Edina, MN.

This year’s celebration at Centennial Lakes Park will feature entertainment by KMOJ radio personality Chantel Sings who will emcee, music by DJ S Dot, and live performances, a children’s area with a kid’s DJ and a book giveaway.

Nanny’s Jamaican Kitchen and Soul to Soul BBQ will provide food along with other Black owned vendors.

Edina’s Juneteenth Celebration is a community-led event planned by Hennepin County Joint Community Police Partnership and the Anti-Racism Collective — with support from the Edina Police Department, City of Edina, City of Richfield and a generous grant from Explore Edina and from Edina Morningside Rotary.

🗓️ Friday, June 19
⏰ Noon to 4 p.m.
📍 Centennial Lakes Park (7499 France Ave. S.)

The students were chosen by a committee of LWVE members based on the students' applications and an essay response describing their involvement in government, public policy, voter education or other civic activities and the most important thing they learned from the experience.

LWVE President Colleen Feige attended the May 22 scholarship awards ceremony and presented the 2026 scholarships to Zeina Al-Ramahi and Alvi Buzar Barua. Congratulations to the recipeints!

The Edina City Council voted to change in-person voting times for the 2026 Primary Election, limiting voting at Edina City Hall to Minnesota's 18-day Early Voting period rather than offering the full 46 days of in-person voting. This change is for the Primary Election only; Edina will still offer the full 46 days of in-person voting for the November General Election.

Starting Friday, July 24, Edina voters can vote in-person at Edina City Hall on weekdays from 8 am to 4:30 pm and on Monday, August 10 until 5 pm. City Hall will also be open for voting on Saturday, August 8 from 9 am to 3 pm.

To save on staffing costs, the Edina City Council voted to limit in-person early voting at City Hall for the upcoming Aug. 11 primary election.

The League of Women Voters of Edina is a nonpartisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy.

A key part of how we do that is through speakers, discussions, and events that connect members to the issues that matter. To plan meetings and events for 2026–2027 that truly reflect your interests and fit your schedule, the board would love to hear from you.
