Juneteenth commemorates the day in Galveston, Texas that the last enslaved African-Americans learned of their freedom nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It became a Federal Holiday in 2021 and is an observed city holiday in Edina, MN.
This year’s celebration at Centennial Lakes Park will feature entertainment by KMOJ radio personality Chantel Sings who will emcee, music by DJ S Dot, and live performances, a children’s area with a kid’s DJ and a book giveaway.
Nanny’s Jamaican Kitchen and Soul to Soul BBQ will provide food along with other Black owned vendors.
Edina’s Juneteenth Celebration is a community-led event planned by Hennepin County Joint Community Police Partnership and the Anti-Racism Collective — with support from the Edina Police Department, City of Edina, City of Richfield and a generous grant from Explore Edina and from Edina Morningside Rotary.
