Wreaths Across America – Knox County Hosts Successful Memorial Day Fish Fry Fundraiser

Wreaths Across America – Knox County recently hosted its Second Annual Memorial Day Fish Fry Fundraiser at the 4-H Pavilion in Edina. Members of the WAA-KC committee and area volunteers served fish, fried potatoes, coleslaw, desserts, and drinks to raise funds for wreath purchases for the 2026 ceremony.

The fundraiser received overwhelming community support, allowing the committee to purchase more than 80 additional wreaths that will be placed on veterans’ graves following the December ceremony.

“We are incredibly thankful for the generosity shown by our community,” said Crystal Murr, Wreaths Across America – Knox County Co-Chair. “This fundraiser plays an important role in helping us honor more veterans each year. Thanks to the support of donors, volunteers, and local organizations, we are continuing to expand our efforts across Knox County.”

Currently, many veteran graves throughout Knox County remain without wreath coverage due to limited family support or lack of funding. The long-term goal of Wreaths Across America – Knox County is to place a wreath on every veteran’s grave in the county within the next five years by increasing fundraising efforts and community awareness.

The committee also expressed appreciation to members of local organizations and community volunteers who donated desserts, time, and resources to make the event successful.

The 2026 Wreaths Across America ceremony will be held December 19, 2026.

Local Wreaths Across America to Host 2nd Annual Memorial Day Fish Fry Fundraiser

Wreaths Across America – Knox County will kick off its 2026 fundraising efforts with the Second Annual Memorial Day Fish Fry Fundraiser on Monday, May 25, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the 4-H Pavilion in Edina.

The WAA-KC committee, along with local volunteers, will be serving fish, fried potatoes, coleslaw, dessert, and tea or lemonade. Adult plates will be $12, children’s plates will be $6, and fish-only options will be available for $6. Desserts will be provided by volunteers, including members of the Ladies Auxiliary and Novelty Senior Center.

“We plan to serve primarily to-go meals, but there will be a few tables and chairs available for those who prefer to dine on site,” said Crystal Murr, Wreaths Across America – Knox County Co-Chair. “This is our second annual Memorial Day fundraiser, and these meals are vital to expanding our efforts to ensure more veterans in Knox County are honored this December.”

The committee is especially grateful for the overwhelming community support during the 2025 Wreaths Across America ceremony. Through donations, volunteer efforts, and sponsorships, more than 700 wreaths were placed on veterans’ graves across Knox County, creating a powerful and meaningful tribute to local service members.

“We are truly thankful for everyone who helped make this past year’s ceremony such a meaningful tribute,” Murr added. “Because of the incredible support from our community, over 700 wreaths were placed in honor of our veterans.”

Despite this success, many veterans’ graves in Knox County remain unrecognized due to a lack of family support or funding for wreath sponsorships. The long-term goal of the committee is to honor every veteran’s grave in Knox County by increasing fundraising efforts, awareness, and community involvement. All proceeds from fundraising events will go directly toward wreath purchases and additional efforts to honor those who have served.

“In the coming years, we hope to expand coverage to additional cemeteries that are still largely uncovered, including Greensburg, Hurdland I.O.O.F., Knox City, and Newark cemeteries. The estimated cost to place wreaths on approximately 300 additional graves is nearly $5,000.”

For more information on how to sponsor a veteran, contact Crystal Murr at [email protected] or 660-397-2179, or mail to 110 N 4th Street, Edina, MO 63537.
The 2026 Wreaths Across America ceremony will be held on December 19th, continuing the annual tradition of remembering and honoring local veterans. Additional details, including wreath sponsorship opportunities, will be shared as the event approaches.
