Tonight at 6pm the Eastport City Council will vote on the future of the Citizen's Initiative's Data Center petitions. ECHO requested an agenda item to deliver the attached request, which asks the the council to apply for Intervenor Status with FERC against DeepGreen's undersea AI Data Center. The council refused.
As an impacted municipality, our city qualifies for Intervenor Status, which would make us an official party in Data Center proceedings. It gives us the right to request permit rehearings, and make appeals in the case. ONLY Intervenors have the legal standing required to challenge final agency decisions in court.
BUT THE WINDOW CLOSES ON OCTOBER 19! By refusing ECHO's request for an agenda item, the city council blocks residents from participating in FERC's Data Center proceedings.
The council also unexpectedly moved tonight's Public Comment forum to the very end of the meeting, after votes have already been taken. This means that NO ONE will have the opportunity to address the council before they vote. We think that's sneaky, and a bad way to represent constituents.
Show up tonight, 6pm at the Shead High gym. Tell the council to obtain Intervenor Status and PASS THE PETITIONS!
