There is a door at Cape Coast that our ancestors walked through and never came back. Next summer, we walk back through it together.
This trip is about more than seeing Ghana. It’s about standing on the land, hearing the history where it happened, and coming home to a part of ourselves many of us were never given the chance to know.
And while you’re reconnecting with where we come from, you’re helping a student get where they’re going. Part of every booking goes to the TQR Last Dollar Scholarship. That money covers the rent, the groceries and the books that financial aid doesn’t. For a lot of students, those costs are the difference between leaving school and graduating.
Two journeys, one trip.
Early deposits close October 16. Details are on the flyer. Send us a message if you have questions, or if there’s someone you’ve always wanted to make this trip with.

What do “Blue Bell” and “City Boy” have in common? Both carry the hand of one artist, Dion J. Pollard, known professionally as DionJa’Y, who paints Black life and history with a gift for color, texture, and hope. Each piece finds its own way into that story, and you can see both in person at Kulture Gallery this August.
Art & Rhythm of the Diaspora brings his work together with pieces from Ade Jones and Dana Todd Pope for an afternoon of culture and community, and every ticket helps a student close the gap between where they are and where they are going. You can find your ticket link in our bio.

Dion J. Pollard, known professionally as DionJa’Y, is a Maryland-based artist whose work has become a vibrant visual storyboard for Black culture, history, and resilience. Pieces like “Sweet Harlem” and “Line Sistas” carry texture you can almost feel and color that leans toward hope. This August, you can meet him in person at Kulture Gallery and hear the story behind them.

Isaiah Ewing is a TQR Last Dollar Scholarship alum. In this video, he looks back on his final year of school and what the scholarship made possible for him that year.
Some things a scholarship gives you show up right away. Others you don’t fully understand until later, once you’ve had time to look back on them.
Isaiah reflects on both. What that final year meant to him, and what the scholarship allowed him to do with it.
Hear it in his own words.

Long before she picked up a paintbrush with intention, Dana Todd Pope was already an artist. She was three years old in a Chicago preschool when a teacher paused over her drawing and said something that would shape the rest of her life. From that moment, she knew her gift was meant to be shared. Today, Dana tells the lesser told stories of hope and resilience, often through the eyes of children. Her work moves across painting, drawing, and new mediums, always searching for new ways to help people feel seen. Through Fearlessly Hue, she brings that same spirit of confidence and color into everyday spaces for children who deserve to see themselves reflected. As a curator, she has also made it her mission to ensure women in the arts are remembered and given their flowers while they are here to receive them. Today, we celebrate an artist whose life’s work is helping others feel a little more seen.

Meet Ade Jones, one of the featured artists joining us for Art & Rhythm of the Diaspora, our fundraiser event at Kulture Gallery supporting college scholarships for students in our community. His work asks us to think differently about identity, memory, and belonging, and we want you to walk away from August 22 thinking differently too.
Here are a few questions worth sitting with when you see his work in person. How does his art speak to the African diaspora across different countries, generations, and experiences of Blackness, not just one community’s story? What role does art play in helping young people from the diaspora understand or reconnect with their own history and identity? What has his own journey as a young Black artist taught him about belonging, and how does that show up in the work he makes? And what does he hope someone from the diaspora feels when they walk into a room built specifically to hold their story?
These are the types of questions you can ask our featured artist at the event. Every ticket, donation, and piece of art you take home helps send a student into the new school year with a scholarship behind them. Meet Ade in person on August 22nd, at our Diaspora fundraiser event at Kulture Gallery.

A curator named Ashleigh Coren once told Ade Jones about her walk to work, how she’d pass Black kids standing on the steps of the Smithsonian, kids who rarely walked inside, and when they did, rarely saw themselves reflected in the halls. That conversation stayed with him and became the piece now on canvas. For Ade, representation isn’t a theme he adds to his work. It is the work. Every piece carries the same idea: Black people deserve to be seen as whole, not just in extremes. Meet Ade and see what that looks like in person, August 22 at Kulture Gallery. Follow his journey at Prince Ade, and find tickets in bio.
