Matt was a kind thoughtful person who cared about other people, worried about people's feelings, and always used his manners. His biggest pet peeve was anyone being mean to another person. His true character was his unwavering empathy and kindness. He was a thoughtful kid, and really considered advice from other people; he made up his own mind about whether he would take the advice, but at least he strongly considered it. Being a good person was important to him, and he took pride in his interactions with adults and peers.

Matt would never have deliberately hurt his parents, sisters, or any of his family. One morning, he woke up in a cloud of anxiety and depression that we had all been trying to help him fight, and he couldn't see any other way around his troubles. He could see only two options: life as agony, and death as reprieve.

The only way our family can cope with the anguish of his loss is to become the instrument of his compassion and acceptance of other people. The Fund is Matt's voice reaching out to other kids the way he would have, had he lived.

We at MAMF just wanted to take a moment to remind anyone who needs to hear it today: you matter.

Not only when life is going well. Not only when you feel strong, successful, or confident. You matter on the hard days, the lonely days, and the days when getting out of bed feels like a victory. Your worth is not determined by your circumstances, your achievements, or how you feel in any given moment.

You matter simply because you are you. You always have, and you always will.

Thank you to everyone who has helped us turn tragedy into a lifesaving beacon of light in the darkness for so many teens in New England and beyond. We are deeply grateful to every donor, volunteer, sponsor, advocate, and supporter who has stood beside us on this journey. Your generosity has helped us raise awareness, start important conversations, connect young people with resources, and remind countless teens that their lives matter and that help is available.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in this mission and for helping us carry Matt's legacy forward. Every life touched, every conversation started, and every young person who finds hope is a testament to what can happen when a community comes together with compassion and determination.

One thing we can promise you is that the people at each of these organizations genuinely want to help. It takes a special kind of person to help someone they don't know, and an even more special kind of person to truly care about those strangers. Somehow these organizations have filled their ranks with these types of people. Find all these resources and more at www.MattAlsfeld.org.

What can we possibly say when a simple 'thank you' won't do? A 'thank you' can't possibly be enough when someone's actions save lives, can it? The thing is, that's the spot our donors put us in. The nature of our work means that our donors are literally saving young lives with their generosity. While the words aren't strong enough, we have to say them anyway; THANK YOU! Because of all of you Matt's light is a beacon in the darkness.

Good morning. As we start the weekend remember that kindness is a powerful thing. It has a ripple effect in the world. A simple thing like a smile can change everything. Be a force for good this weekend, be kind.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month; what steps have you taken this month to take care of yourself? Not to sound cliche but you really can't pour from an empty cup. Taking care of yourself is a must.

It’s okay to not always feel okay. Life doesn’t move in a straight line, and neither do our emotions. There will be days when things feel heavy, confusing, or just off, and that doesn’t make you weak, it makes you human. You don’t have to have it all figured out, and you don’t have to hide what you’re going through. Giving yourself permission to feel, without judgment, is an important step toward healing. And if those feelings start to linger or feel overwhelming, reaching out is not a burden to others, it’s a brave and necessary step. You are allowed to have hard days, and you are still worthy of support, care, and better ones ahead.
