Something new awaits you at Briggs-Boesch Farm! On your next visit, check out our new trailhead sign and trail map! The Land Trust has been developing new maps for all of the town’s public trail properties. The farm is first because it has an existing kiosk. Others will come as the town installs new kiosk structures. (Shout out to Land Trust board member Lizzie Hunt and community volunteers Corinne Steinbrenner and Cindy McMillen for their time and talents in bringing this sign to life!)

Dear Friends of the East Greenwich Land Trust,

We’re pleased to share with you an upcoming Hunt River Watershed Community Workshop beginning this Tuesday, April 28, and we wanted to be sure our past event participants knew about it.

This five-week community workshop is being led by Beatrice McGeoch of the University of Rhode Island and is designed for anyone who lives, works, or spends time in the Hunt River watershed—including East Greenwich residents in particular. The Hunt River watershed supplies water for about 30,000 people, and this series offers an opportunity to learn more about the places we care for while connecting with neighbors who share an interest in land, water, and local ecology.

What to expect:
* Five weekly evening sessions focused on greenspace, transportation, and water management
* Guided walking explorations of different areas of the watershed
* A collaborative project to create a map of the watershed that can be used for community and youth education
* Flexible participation—it's ok if you can't join all the sessions

Meeting details:
Location: Davisville Free Library (481 Davisville Road, North Kingstown)
Time: 6:00–8:00 PM
Dates: April 28; May 5, 12, 19, and 26
Optional field trips are also offered on select Fridays and Saturdays in early and mid-May. Full details and registration information are available online.

If you have questions, feel free to reach out directly to Beatrice, or simply attend the first meeting this Tuesday to learn more.
We hope you’ll consider joining—or passing this along to someone you know in East Greenwich who might be interested.

With thanks,
Derek

Pat's Pastured at Brigg's Boesch Farm has been a great partner to our Land Trust for many years. Many of the workers there hail from Jamaica and their homes and families were impacted this week by hurricane Melissa.

This past Saturday was a beautiful day to learn about the history and ecology of one of our local preserved places in East Greenwich, Frenchtown Park! Thank you for the partnership East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society and East Greenwich Community Services & Parks Department, and the leadership and knowledge from Lizzie and Kevin from EGLT and Matt and Virginia from EGHPS.

Today we had a nice event with Cub Scouts Pack 3 East Greenwich hiking around a 40-acre "Mawney-Hopkins" property acquired by the town a couple years back. It's a nice spot not a lot of people know about. It is accessible to the public, with some limited parking. The East Greenwich Land Trust is working with the East Greenwich Community Services & Parks Department to develop a small parking area, signage, and marked trails.

Pack 3 has taken the Litter Free Rhode Island pledge, and this is the 3rd time in the last few months we've been able to hike EG's trails (Briggs Boesch and Frenchtown Park, prior) and clean up as we go. These kids are working hard to keep our trails better than they found them!

We had another nice event at the Briggs-Boesch farm a couple weekend ago, with great weather and informative tours from our friends George Christie (find his articles in the EG News) and Pat & Kelly McNiff of Pat's Pastured.

Thank you for the support of East Greenwich Community Services & Parks Department and Rhode Island Land Trust Council. Future events we host and join will be listed with one or both groups. Give them a follow!
