“NEUROSIS has returned, and we didn’t fully realize how deeply we missed their presence. We love this band because they’ve never asked us to hide from what hurts. Neurosis lives within the same belief that guides our work.

The Firekeeper Alliance is an impassioned organization born in response to human suffering. We believe extreme music is a protective factor that supports our ability to cope.

To all our friends and relatives who are struggling right now, and to everyone who has walked through the storm and come out the other side……and to everyone who has lost a loved one far too soon, we are with you. And we hope you join us this summer.

Come rejoice in this beautiful catharsis with our Firekeeper/FITM community at the Backbone of the World this July and bear witness to the return of this legendary band.”

-Charlie Speicher, Executive Director of Firekeeper Alliance

Steve Von Till Says: “Being asked if Neurosis could help represent the mission of Firekeeper Alliance at Fire in the Mountains became a defining moment for us - a call that helped us rise and reclaim our life’s work.

We had been slowly finding our way back to the music, but the path forward felt distant, clouded by life’s weight. This invitation gave us clarity. It reminded us that this was bigger than us.

As Robert Hall of Firekeeper said to us, “In our culture, when you’re called upon, it’s your responsibility to answer.” We took that to heart.

This call served as a fire in the distance, guiding us forward step by step. In chasing it, we found our way back; to the music, to the land, and toward healing. In many ways, this invitation gave us the path forward, and maybe even saved us.”

EQUIPMENT DONATIONS NEEDED

Firekeeper Alliance is honored to support a hands-on sound/art project organized by Steve Von Till in collaboration with Blackfeet Nation high school students enrolled in the Heavy Music Symposium.

The first stage of this project will feature students collecting field recordings from their community and natural environment. To make this possible, we are humbly seeking donations of the following equipment:

-4 Zoom H1 or H4 portable audio recorders

-4 sets of closed-back headphones, such as:

Sennheiser HD 280
Audio-Technica ATH-M30x
Sony MDR-7506

If you’re able to donate any of these items, please DM directly. We are also able to accept monetary donations to purchase the equipment as needed.

From Steve:

“As part of this year’s Heavy Music Symposium class, I will collaborate with students on a multimedia project designed to encourage creative self-expression through field recordings, sound manipulation, loud open-tuning drone guitars, spoken word, vocalization, and drumming. I’ll also be inviting friends who are experts in these areas to help guide and inspire the students.”

The generosity we’ve already received means more than we can say, and we’re grateful to be held up by such a thoughtful community. Please reach out to us with any questions.

It’s Giving Tuesday!

Today is a powerful opportunity to support the Firekeeper Alliance and our mission to confront su***de here in the Blackfeet Nation. This first year has been incredible — we’ve grown our outreach, built relationships across the world, and watched our dreams begin to take shape. We are deeply grateful for every person who has lifted us up along the way.

On this Giving Tuesday, here are three ways you can help fuel our work:

-Monetary Donations (link in bio)
-Gear Donations (shoot us an email)
-Merch Purchases (link in bio)

Every dollar and every contribution goes directly toward creating meaningful creative outlets, expanding strengths-based counseling services, and strengthening cultural connection for our young people.

We also want to shout out two other amazing nonprofits doing crucial work in Blackfeet Country: Blackfeet MMIP and Ohkomi Forensics. Be sure to check out their websites to learn more:

Thank you for standing with us.

While we appreciate the sentiment behind Native American Heritage Month, those of us who are Pikunni and live, work, and serve on the Blackfeet Reservation know that celebrating Indigenous heritage isn’t something that switches on in November. It’s lived every day—in our languages, our relationships, our ceremonies, our humor, our resilience, and the work we do for one another.

We value the intention of the national recognition, but we also believe Indigenous communities deserve year-round celebration, visibility, and alignment.
This time of year, iiṫō’m”kō”ṗoǒṫǎa (The Big Snow), reminds us to offer empathy to one another. At Firekeeper Alliance, we hold that commitment not only in November, but every month of the year.

As part of this month’s reflections, November 22 marks National Survivors of Su***de Day—a day of deep importance for our community. Across Indian Country, too many families carry the weight of loss, and too many young people are navigating grief with limited support. Recognizing this day matters. It gives space for survivors, honors loved ones who’ve walked on, and reinforces that no one should face their healing alone.
Firekeeper Alliance stands with every survivor—today and always—and we remain committed to the work of safety, protection, and creating a sense of belonging for all our relatives.

The Firekeeper Alliance is extremely proud to announce that legendary doom trio YOB will be joining its ongoing musical curation at Fire in the Mountains ‘26.

Known for their transcendent approach to heavy music, YOB has long embodied themes of resilience, introspection, and spiritual renewal—qualities that align deeply with Firekeeper Alliance’s mission to help the most at-risk demographics in the Blackfeet Nation navigate struggle and rediscover strength through community, creativity, and cultural connection.

Mike Scheidt gave us his thoughts: “Aaron, Dave and I are deeply honored to be chosen by The Firekeeper Alliance to be in attendance and perform at Fire In the Mountains 2026. Heavy music was a true refuge for us as kids growing up in a society that we struggled to find a place in. It’s just as potent today as ever. Heavy music has a miraculous power to bring minds, hearts and worlds together, and it’s a well that never runs dry.

We look forward to a weekend of deep connection and learning, with hearts brimming in celebration and gratitude. We’re especially grateful to the Blackfeet Nation and everyone at The Firekeeper Alliance for bringing music and community together as a force to end the isolation that so often contributes to the senseless loss of our youth to su***de. We join them in their fight against the highest su***de rates in the country.”

Yob is love ❤️
