The Power of Art in Placemaking

Public art does much more than beautify a space - it can shape community identity, spark meaningful dialogue, and unlock new potential for both developers and creatives.

On May 20, we gathered with a talented slate of panelists who shared insights on creative placemaking, demystified the process of integrating art into urban environments, and reminded us that public art isn’t just a β€œnice-to-have”—it’s a powerful tool for connection, storytelling, and long-term value. Special thanks again to our panelists for highlighting the vital role public art plays in community development:

Mavis Gragg | Attorney, CEO of HeirShare, and Co-founder of Pop Box Gallery
Sarah Meiners | Senior Marketing Manager at Longfellow Real Estate Partners
Stephanie Minor | Public Art Project Manager & Communications Strategist, City of Durham Cultural & Public Art Program
Taylor White | Multidisciplinary Artist

Thank you to everyone who joined us! Here’s to more spaces that reflect the spirit of their communities - and to the art that brings them to life.
