Humans of GlobeMed, featuring Cathy Chen!
As an upperclassman, how have you seen GlobeMed grow over the years?
"It’s really cool to see GlobeMed trying new things! The development of integrating information about our partner into GBM by providing articles and videos/stories from GROW has really helped with contextualizing our partner and their situation. Some new endeavors like new campaigns, People of GlobeMed, and the preGBM dinners have been successful in reaching our fundraising goal and meeting the members more frequently. I’m excited for the addition of an ghU co-chairs to improve GlobeMed’s presence on campus and in the community."
What is a favorite memory in GlobeMed?
"I vividly remember the day Judy and I came to the decision of ending our partnership with GROW. It was bittersweet to end projects but continue friendships there. My favorite memories would be the beginning of our new partnership with GHNU, from when exec made the decision of committing to GHNU to our first communication with them. I’m so looking forward to what this partnership will achieve in coming years."
What advice would you give to a freshman interested in global health at Duke?
"I love how every global health major is different because their interests are always varied. Duke has a lot of opportunities and money, so don’t be hesitant in pursuing something that you’re interested in (even if theres not some specific program that fits your needs, you can still reach out and possibly make your own!)"
How do you see your participation in GlobeMed playing a role post-grad?
"I’ve travelled a lot in my life and the influence of culture on health and mentality has really interested me. GlobeMed is a space to learn more about that. I am currently planning to be a doctor, so I hope to do some kind of global work in the future."
