ASCE UNH Student Chapter

ASCE UNH Student Chapter The purpose of the Student Chapter is to facilitate the professional and educational growth of the UNH civil engineering students.

Our chapter keeps students well informed of their educational and professional opportunities through regular chapter meetings that include the participation of faculty and professionals from all fields of civil engineering. Currently, we are building a bocce court outside of the engineering building on campus for the use of all students at UNH. We are also starting a mentoring program, where an up

perclassman is partnered with an underclassman to assist with any academic or personal issues they face. A crucial objective of this chapter is building teamwork, as well as engineering and communication skills essential to a successful career in civil engineering. For example, both the Steel Bridge Team and Concrete Canoe Team foster and promote teamwork, network building, and organizational skills that are a great advantage to working professionals.

The chapter hosts meetings throughout the semester and outside speakers are brought in to talk about their career or projects they have worked on. This is a great opportunity to meet professionals and see what civil engineers do on a daily basis. This is a perfect way to network with professionals and increase your chances of obtaining an internship or entry level position.

The chapter has various opportunities to work with other civil engineering students on projects and other activites. ASCE-UNH members can participate in the steel bridge team, concrete canoe team, and other team building projects such as the bocce court project. Students at all levels can participate and contribute in any of the team building activities. It is a great way to meet other civil engineering students outside the classroom.
