May is mental health awareness month. Taking care of our mental health is a vital part of our overall wellbeing, especially for those of us who are a part of marginalized communities or are involved in social movements.

We know that Individual healing becomes a catalyst for collective healing, which better equips us to do the work of liberation, dreaming and world building.

So even if you only have five minutes a day, we encourage everyone to find a moment to check in with themselves: breathe, chat with a friend, journal, create, or stretch your body.

We invite you to explore the resources below as we work together towards healing and thriving:

💙 BEAM (Black Emotional and Mental Health) Collective's Heart Space program
Heart Space is a Black led and culturally competent healing circle and peer support program designed to help participants connect, share, and learn mutual coping strategies and wellness skills.

💙 Darkeness Rising's REBUILD Program
REBUILD connects justice-involved and formerly incarcerated individuals of color with culturally competent therapists who understand this unique experience.

💙 Mentalhealthliberation.org - BIPOC Healing & Therapy Fund
The BIPOC Healing & Therapy Fund provides free, personalized mental health care services back to our communities.

💙 Inclusive Therapist's Ecosystem of Care
Database of therapy and mutual aid funds, Mental health communities and directories, and ecosystems of radical care.

Yesterday, as we filed our appeal in the fight against NC’s discriminatory photo voter ID, the US Supreme Court gutted one of the few remaining protections of the Voting Rights Act.

The decision in Louisiana v Callais is not only judicial overreach, but a direct attack on our democracy, Black and brown voters, and Black political power across the south.

Attorney Whitley Carpenter is a powerful advocate for second chances and eliminating barriers to re-entry.

When asked about why Second Chance Month is important, Whitley says, "To me, second chances are important because they ensure that people impacted by the criminal legal system still have fair access to opportunity, because a past mistake should not define a person’s future. Second Chance month is about making sure a criminal record is not a life sentence, and that everyone has a real chance to move forward."
