You might remember a post a couple of weeks ago where we shared that we had recently lost several puppies. It breaks our hearts to share that the loss didn't stop there. The rest of the litter, including one puppy that went to another rescue and one that went to an adoptive family, have all passed away. Every single one of them. Because their mama wasn't vaccinated, she had no immunities to pass down, leaving these little babies completely defenseless. They were essentially doomed before they even took their first breath, facing a battle they never stood a chance of winning.

As rescuers, we are devastated. But honestly? We're also so deeply frustrated. Knowing these sweet lives slipped away from something entirely preventable hurts more than words can say.

Look Into Their Faces

Please take a second to click through and look at these little faces. They were just innocent, beautiful souls who deserved a long, happy life full of belly rubs, cozy beds, and endless love. Their time here was far too short, and every single moment of their lives was so precious and worth fighting for. Seeing their pictures is a stark reminder of why proper veterinary care matters so much.

Why Every Dog Needs Proper Protection

While our recent heartbreak involved a litter, this message is really for anyone who loves a dog. Whether you have a tiny puppy, an adult dog, or a senior rescue, keeping up with vaccines is the only way to shield them from fast-acting, scary diseases like Parvovirus and Distemper.

* Before Birth: A vaccinated mama passes vital antibodies to give her newborns a fighting chance.
* Throughout Life: Regular shots keep your adult dogs safe from invisible, dangerous threats.
* Preventing Heartbreak: No family and no rescue should ever have to watch a healthy animal suffer from something we actually have the power to stop.

Please, double-check your dog’s records with your vet today and make sure they are fully up-to-date. Let’s honor the lives of the little ones we couldn't save by making sure every dog gets the protection they deserve. ❤

🐾 Happy National Dog Day! 🐾

Today we celebrate the dogs who make our lives better in so many ways. The holiday was created with two special goals -- to celebrate the dogs we love and shine a light on the many dogs still waiting for homes. If you follow GSRA, no doubt you know just how much a dog can change a life, and how much it means to change a dog's life in return.

Have a GSRA alum at home? We'd LOVE to see them! Celebrate National Dog Day by sending us a favorite photo so we can share a Pupdate.

Ares is a gentle giant with calm manners and an affectionate heart. This handsome 3-year-old boy gets along beautifully with other dogs.

Ares is one of those dogs who leaves you wondering how he ever ended up in a shelter. At ninety pounds, he is a big boy in every sense, but his size is matched by an easygoing, calm demeanor and manners that would make any family proud. He has been settling in quietly, resting up and taking things slow, and his early introductions to other dogs have gone smoothly and gently.

He is friendly through and through, the kind of companion who greets you with great hugs and generous kisses and asks for little more than to be near his people. Those who have spent time with him describe him simply as a perfect German Shepherd, and it is easy to see why.

Ares is still new to us, and we are just beginning to get to know all the wonderful things about him. Stay tuned for updates as his story unfolds. If you are looking for an all around good companion in a handsome, loving package, this may be your guy.
