How many people have read the Town Times recently? Did you happen to catch the Letter to the Editor from Linda Torres which describes the (in my opinion) extremely unprofessional and uncalled for public comment from a town hall employee.

In this outburst many claims were made, most notable about the RETIRING employees but made to sound as if they were leaving due to a "hostile" work environment.

Let me first say, for many, many meetings' Selectmen Szewczyk had claimed a hostile Town Hall environment for years under First Selectman Francis. There are many recorded meetings of his claim, this is not something new and perhaps an environment that was allowed to be cultivated over years and years under the previous leadership.

Second, the retiring employees dedicated MANY DECADES to our town. Who would not retire when they are able and at the retirement age? To claim these employees would continue to work past their retirement age if only there wasn't a "hostile work environment" is childish and not likely factual. Unless we hear those employees claim that, and two of them likely won't as they made it clear they were retiring at least 2 years ago, that cannot be put out as fact.

As for the other claims made during this public comment, like bugs or ants being in the building, I would say it would be hard NOT to find a home or building, let alone one built in the 1800s that doesn't have those issues.

I think rather than trying to spin this narrative that there is something sinister going on in town hall, perhaps we should look into why these claims were made WELL before Selectman Eames even took office.

I for one am happy to see new faces entering out town hall, WELL QUALIFIED and COMPETENT employees being placed in jobs that NEED these types of people. Sometimes when you have a new boss who holds you accountable to your job duties and your so used to doing whatever you want, you look for the easy way out and retirement was likely that choice for some of these people.

Something that’s been on my mind since the Republican Caucus is, why does the RTC not support the incumbent Republicans in office? What has not been accomplished or done in the time they’ve been in office that would make the Nominating Committee for the RTC choose to nominate two men who have had very little to do with running the town?

Now don’t get me wrong, these two nominees that were endorsed by the RTC are fine men, who have done their fair share of volunteering, like for the fire dept, but when it comes to attending meetings for the Board of Selectman, board of finance, planning and zoning, heck even something like recreation committee or economic development commission, I’ve almost never seen either of these men in attendance.

It is my true belief and opinion that there is an ulterior motive, maybe a dislike personally or otherwise that won’t allow these men on the nominating committee to support the current, highly qualified Eames and Spooner.

Even after the nominating speeches at the caucus I’m still unsure how two men were chosen over the other, these brief minutes even show the difference in qualifications.

I again implore everyone following this page to continue to share these posts, invite your friends and family to follow the page and stand up and fight for our town and what is best for it. Durham needs Eames & Spooner

I’ve heard I’m not the only one who has these same opinions, if your interested in helping spread the word, you can comment below or private message this page.

I cannot express the absolute dedication of the current Board of Selectmen members. In such a short period of time, many necessary projects have been finally addressed. I mentioned some of these the other day.

I was in attendance for the Town Meeting on 5-8-2023 but many were not and may not know the many projects brought forward by the BOS after many months of discussions, meetings and talking with committees.

Here are the projects brought forward by the BOS and voted on by the people who showed up to the meeting:

--To approve the appropriation of $20,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for the partial funding of the Town’s Youth Services program managed by a local not-for-profit known as the Durham Middlefield Youth and Family Service as recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of April 25, 2023

--To approve the appropriation of $30,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for the funding of a business marketing and mapping plan proposed by the Town’s Economic Development Commission ad recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of April 25, 2023.

--To approve the appropriation of $200,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for the funding of new playground equipment at Allyn Brook Park, as proposed by the Town’s Recreation Commission and recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of April 25, 2023.

--To approve the appropriation of an additional $100,000 ($200,000 was approved by Town Meeting on 9/12/22) from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund to remove the sanitary line from the holding tank to the farthest fixture and replace with an entirely new drain waste vent system and resulting renovation to upgrade two (2) toilet rooms to meet ADA requirements and to convert one (1) bathroom into two (2) bathrooms to accommodate men & women separately at the Durham Volunteer Fire Department building as proposed by the Fire Company Board of Trustees and recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of April 25, 2023.

--To approve the appropriation of $75,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for the funding of new doors and windows, as well as the relocation of interior water pipes (which freeze routinely) as proposed by the Fire Company Board of Trustees and recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of April 25, 2023.

--To approve the appropriation of $50,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for minor repairs and painting of 37 and 51 Main Street in order to correct their blighted condition as seen from both the “public view” and “public way” as recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of April 25, 2023.

--To approve the appropriation of $110,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for the purchase of 20 sets of turn-out gear for Fire Department and EMS personnel, as proposed by The Durham Volunteer Fire Company and recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of April 25, 2023.

-- To approve the appropriation of $100,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act Fund for the purchase of an Emergency Communication Console to replace an existing end-of-life console, as proposed by the Emergency Management Director and recommended by the Board of Selectman at their meeting of
April 25, 2023.

In trying to keep this post not incredibly long (longer than it already is) I urge everyone to follow the link to see even more projects brought forward to HELP OUR TOWN :https://municipal-documents.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/durham-ct/town-hall/documents/minutes/67602/05-08-2023%20Minutes%20ABM%20with%20attachments.pdf

ALL of these projects will have a DIRECT impact on our town and the people who live here. Investing in our town, using the ARPA funds wisely and in some instances to help save lives by providing necessary gear to the Fire Department. These are the SMART decision-making people that we NEED in office.

Continuing to move our town forward, do what's BEST for us ALL and not just themselves. Volunteering their time and in turn making our town better.

Again, I urge you all to share this post by clicking the share button below, invite you friends and family to like and FOLLOW this page and let it be known that Durham needs Eames & Spooner

Did you attend the Durham Board of Selectmen meeting last night?

If you didn't, you missed the announcement of two HIGHLY qualified hires to fill the positions of Executive Assistant and Finance Coordinator.

John Board was hired as Executive Assistant and brings a wealth of knowledge. According to First Selectman Eames, John comes with experience working for the City of Derby as Assistant to the Mayor, the Town of Newtown as Assistant to the First Selectman and the City of New Britain as the Assistant to the Mayor. In these roles he gained experience with writing ordinances, writing employee handbooks and collaborating with the New Britain Finance Department to help develop their budget.

Alicia Mancarella is now serving as our new Finance Coordinator and also comes with a wealth of knowledge. Alicia previously worked at RSD13 along with Anthem Blue Cross as a Senior Auditor, Auditor l and Auditor ll, an Accounting Analyst, Underwriting Analyst and she has an MBA in Finance.

These hires are just a few of the reasons why George Eames and Chad Spooner should remain on our Board of Selectmen. Hiring competent, qualified and motivated people to fill vacancies that will only HELP our town continue to move forward.

Durham CT has been lucky enough to have George Eames at the helm for nearly the past year. In that time we have seen a tremendous amount of progress for our small town.

We’ve seen the community center take shape where the seniors now hold their lunches weekly, play bridge and have sewing club. We now have a beautiful new office for our wonderful state troopers and soon our ambulance will have a healthy and safe space to be housed.

We currently have meeting space available for the entire community and soon the youth room will be finished and offer a permanent place for our children to congregate.

The long overdue firehouse bathroom renovation is underway and the sidewalk project that was at a standstill when First Selectman Eames took office was finished due to his persistence.

In November of 2022 we were lucky enough to have Chad Spooner join the Board of Selectmen. Together these two men, a presence at the Farm Market and Recreational concerts each week, have pushed forward and kept our town moving in a positive direction.

Both of these men have volunteered countless hours over the years for our town on various volunteer committees. They’ve both raised their families here and continue to call Durham home and prove each day just how much they love this town.

This town cannot afford to lose these two fine gentleman. They’ve only just begun to make progress in a town where nothing has happened in the last decade. If you are a concerned citizen like me, please join me in showing your support for these two men.

What can you do? Share this page, invite your friends to like it, and support Eames and Spooner. Encourage them not to give up on our town and run for First Selectmen and Selectmen this November.

Durham NEEDS Eames & Spooner.
