As President of Concerned Black American Citizens, Inc., Dawn Paige delivered Reclaiming Our Legacy: A Call to Action to the Afro‑American Historical and Genealogical Society with a message grounded in urgency and resolve. She asserted that the historical record of Black America — especially the lineage of Freedmen descendants — has been fragmented, overlooked, and too often controlled by institutions that did not bear the cost of our ancestors’ survival.

Her call was clear: reclaiming our legacy is not a ceremonial exercise but a disciplined act of protection. It requires confronting erasure, restoring documentation, and mobilizing communities to secure the records, narratives, and genealogical evidence that define Black American identity. Paige emphasized that safeguarding this legacy is both a right and a responsibility — a collective stand to ensure our ancestors’ names, labor, and lineage are never again diminished or misplaced in the national archive.
