FFMS is a backpack feeding program that provides discreet weekend meals to chronically-food-insecure schoolchildren (and their older siblings) in Durant Elementary School, Holmes County, MS.

🎉 We're honored to be one of two Mississippi nonprofits selected for the 2025 River Runs Full campaign! 🎉

From August through September 2025, Sydney Matrisciano and Leah Pettit will be kayaking the full length of the Mississippi River--from its headwaters in Minnesota to the Gulf Coast--to raise awareness and funds for childhood hunger in rural Mississippi.

They’re doing this incredible journey in support of Feeding the Future Mississippi and Blessings for All Empowered by Faith, two volunteer-run backpack feeding programs serving some of Mississippi’s most food-insecure communities.

Their goal is to raise $10,000 to help ensure children in Holmes and Montgomery counties have consistent, nourishing weekend meals.

We’re in the 4th quarter—and we need your help to finish strong! 💪

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, FFMS is working hard to continue providing weekend meals to the 90 children in our program through May.

These aren’t just any kids. Many of the children we serve are homeless or living in deep poverty. They stand out as some of the most chronically food-insecure in Holmes County, a place where the median household income is less than $20,000.

In a place where over 30% of residents lack consistent access to food, our program helps ensure some of its most disadvantaged children return to school each week fed, focused, and ready to learn.

For the first time in our history, Feeding the Future Mississippi (FFMS) faces the challenge of maintaining our current impact without expanding. Rising costs and funding constraints have forced us to cap the number of children we serve at 90 students for the 2024-2025 school year. This means we can no longer grow as we have in past years.

💡 Why We Need Your Help:
- Our meal costs have increased from $4 to $5 per child per weekend.
- Our overall budget for this year is $16,500 to keep providing weekend meals to students.
- Every $5 donation feeds a child for a weekend, and $180 supports a child throughout the school year.

Since 2019, FFMS has delivered over 11,000 meal packages to children in need. With 100% of donations going directly toward meal costs, every dollar truly makes a difference.
