We’re excited to begin meeting on a brand-new day and time starting Thursday, July 9!

Join us on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

We are proud and honored to announce that Durant Toastmasters has earned the 2025-2026 Distinguished Club award from Toastmasters International.

The Distinguished Club designation is one of the highest honors a Toastmasters club can achieve. It recognizes clubs that meet rigorous goals set by Toastmasters International -- goals that measure membership growth, the quality of the member experience, member advancement through the Toastmasters Pathways curriculum, and the development of strong club leadership. Earning this award reflects the commitment, consistency, and character of every single member who showed up, spoke up, and kept growing.

We do not take this lightly. This is what it looks like when a community decides that every voice matters, every idea deserves to be heard, and developing their people is a priority.

Some people think leadership starts with a title.

A position. A nameplate. A seat at the front of the room.
Maybe even a very serious voice and a calendar full of meetings.

Because nothing says “leadership” like saying, “Let’s circle back,” while nobody knows what we are circling back to.

But leadership is not the same thing as sounding important.
Real leadership helps people become stronger, clearer, and more capable.

That starts with communication.

Not just the words you say, but how well you listen. How clearly you explain. How steady you are when people are confused. How well you follow through.

How you help a group understand what matters and what needs to happen next.

At Durant Toastmasters, members practice more than speaking. They practice timing, listening, giving feedback, leading meetings, and communicating clearly in real time.

That kind of practice matters. Because leadership is not only about being in charge.

You are explaining something that makes perfect sense in your head.

Then about halfway through, you can feel it. The look. That quiet, polite expression people get when they are trying to follow you, but somewhere along the way, the train left the tracks.

So now you are adding more words, not fewer. Maybe repeating yourself. Maybe hoping your point will come back around and introduce itself properly.

It happens. Having a good idea is one thing. Communicating it clearly is another.

At Durant Toastmasters, members practice organizing their thoughts, speaking with clarity, and saying what they mean in a way other people can actually follow.

Some people think speaking skills are only for the stage.

A podium. A microphone. A room full of people waiting for a speech.

Because apparently the rest of life does not require us to explain anything clearly.

Except, of course, staff meetings. Job interviews. Hard conversations. Volunteer projects. Business introductions.

And that fun little moment when someone says, “Can you explain what you mean?”

There is talking, and then there is speaking clearly.
Kind of like there is hearing, and then there is actually listening.

At Durant Toastmasters, members practice the kind of communication skills people use in everyday life.

Most people do not mean to make their message all about them. It just happens, especially when they care deeply about what they are saying. They start talking about their business, their side hustle, their community project, or the cause they believe in, and before long they are knee-deep in details.

How it started. Why they care. What they offer. What they are trying to build. That is just the way most passionate people tend to communicate.

And it is just as natural for the person listening to start tuning out pretty quickly when they cannot tell how your story connects to what is going on in their real life. They may still hear your words, but they are not really listening, and they are definitely not connecting.

In small-town communities, people are listening for more than information. They want to know if what you are saying connects to them, their community, or something they care about, and whether they can see themselves in what you are saying.

At Durant Toastmasters, members practice saying what they mean in a way other people can follow. You learn how to take the idea in your head, shape it into words, and make it easier for the person listening to understand why it matters to them.

Because if you care enough to speak about your business, your side hustle, your community project, or a cause close to your heart, people need more than your information. They need a way to connect with it emotionally.

This episode features -Alicia Rabadi, who simply goes by Alicia.

Alicia is a Christian entrepreneur, wellness mentor, and owner of Super Plus Cleaning LLC. She is also a woman whose life is deeply shaped by faith, family, discipline, prayer, and a strong desire to follow the calling God has placed on her life.

What makes this conversation so meaningful is that Alicia does not separate her work from her walk with God. Whether she is building a business, encouraging someone in fitness, pouring into others through prayer and scripture, or serving her community, she carries the same heart of service.

Some people think quick speakers are just born that way.

They always know what to say.

They never freeze.

They were born being able to answer a question, make a point, or respond in a meeting without their brain suddenly leaving the building.

Well, congratulations to those three people.

For the rest of us, speaking on the spot is a learned skill.

At Durant Toastmasters, Table Topics gives members a chance to answer an unexpected question in a supportive setting.

You’re not going to be perfect. That’s the whole idea. You’re going to sound human.

With practice, you learn how to respond, organize your thoughts, and find your words with a little more steadiness each time.

Thinking on your feet is not magic.

Well, that’s not going to be scary at all.

Oh wait. Yes, it will. Yes, yes, it will.

Speaking clearly under pressure takes practice.

At Durant Toastmasters, members get structured practice speaking, listening, responding, and improving over time.

Have you ever heard of Table Topics? Ask someone who knows Toastmasters what that is. I can tell you this, it’s fun. Scary, but fun.
