Annie's Orphans - Durango, CO Durango Colorado's only no-kill dog shelter. 🐶
Providing a safe haven for dogs until their forever homes can be found. 💜🐾
(1)

We began our work in 1985 as a home for retired sled dogs, but quickly turned into a full-fledged, all-breed rescue incorporated as a not-for profit foundation in 1997. We have a maximum capacity of approximately 70 dogs, but try to keep our numbers under 50 in winter so that we can give all our residents the care and attention they each deserve. We are a safe haven for the abandoned, neglected an

d abused dog population from throughout the greater Four Corners area. Our mission is to offer these dogs and those labeled as “difficult-to-adopt” by typical shelters, a refuge were they can live safely, comfortably, happily, and healthily until each can find his/her special person and forever home. Since opening our doors, we’ve found homes for approximately 2,000 dogs. Durango is a very dog friendly community. Someone once said “it’s not IF you have a dog in Durango, it’s how many dogs you have”. In caring for, readying for adoption and adopting out dogs, we believe we are doing a great service to the Durango community - human and canine alike. We also help reduce pet overpopulation by spaying, neutering and providing medical care for all dogs prior to placement in their new homes.

We Need a Miracle for Four Very Special Dogs!

At Annie's K-9 Orphans No-Kill Shelter, we fight every day to give homeless dogs a second chance. Right now, four of our dogs desperately need orthopedic surgeries, and we need our community's help to make it happen.

Together, we need to raise approximately $16,000 about $4,000 per dog to give them the pain-free future they deserve.

Lucy is just a husky puppy. She should be running, playing, and exploring the world. Instead, she was born with severe hip and leg deformities that make every day a challenge. Despite her physical struggles, Lucy greets life with a wagging tail and endless love. She deserves the chance to grow up without pain.

Bella is one of our sanctuary dogs, meaning Annie's is her forever home. Recently, Bella began experiencing significant pain. We've taken her to the veterinarian, run tests, and placed her on the maximum dose of pain medication, but we still don't have all the answers. What we do know is that she is hurting, and she needs further orthopedic intervention to help restore her quality of life.

Simba and Nala, our beloved "Tijuana Twins," have been waiting for months to receive the knee surgeries they desperately need. These two came to us from the streets of Tijuana and have been inseparable ever since.

Now, something incredible is happening, one of our amazing volunteers from Fort Lewis College is preparing to foster-to-adopt them together. It's the happy ending we've dreamed of for them, but before they can begin their next chapter, they need surgery so they can walk, run, and enjoy their new life without pain.

Every dollar donated brings these dogs one step closer to relief, recovery, and the futures they deserve.

Some of them are waiting for a chance to run.

Some are waiting for answers.

All of them are waiting for us.

If you've ever loved a dog, rescued a dog, adopted a dog, or simply believe that every animal deserves compassion, please consider donating. If you can't donate, sharing this post could help us reach someone who can.

We know $16,000 is a huge goal. But we've seen this community accomplish incredible things when animals are in need.

Let's show Lucy, Bella, Simba, and Nala that they are not alone.

Donate. Share. Advocate.

Because every dog deserves the chance to live a life free from pain.

Teddy & Freya

Came in separately but it was love at first sight. Both well trained on leash, good with dogs and people. Medium activity level and waiting for their forever.

Rhiannan was severely abused prior to her rescue. She had a wire wrapped around her neck and had been abused by men in a way that is unimaginable.

Rhiannan has come so far and would do best in a quiet home as someone's little princess.

She has been here for a very long time now. As you can see she's a very outgoing girl.
