🚨A difficult Little Jazzy Paws update 🐾🚨
After a lot of thought, conversations, and honestly a lot of heartbreak, we have decided to step away from Little Jazzy Paws for an unknown amount of time.
This is not because we stopped caring. If anything, caring so much is what made this decision so difficult.
We both work full-time, have our own health challenges and responsibilities, and have reached a point where the financial and emotional weight of rescue has become more than we can continue to carry. We have poured so much of our own money, time, energy, and hearts into these cats. We have taken on vet bills, emergencies, TNR, fosters, adoptions, and everything that comes with trying to help animals who otherwise may have had nowhere to go.
But the reality is that we aren't wealthy. We have accumulated a significant amount of vet bill debt, and while we're spending almost everything we have trying to help cats, our own homes are literally starting to fall apart around us. Leaking roofs, repairs, bills, and our own lives have been pushed aside for a long time because there was always another cat that needed us.
And eventually, you have to admit that you can't keep doing that.
As heartbreaking as it is, we have to say “enough.”We have to take care of ourselves, our health, our finances, and our own responsibilities too.
We still have cats and kittens depending on us, and we aren't walking away from them. We will continue posting them for adoption and may hold some adoption events to help find homes for the ones still in our care. We will continue monitoring our TNR colonies, and if we are already in the process of helping you, we will follow through.
We may also continue fostering for local rescues when we are able, and we will absolutely continue networking our cats who need homes.
What we cannot do is continue taking on new rescue cases or TNR requests through Little Jazzy Paws right now.
We also want to say something that we hope people really take to heart:
Rescuers cannot do everything.‼️
There are only so many hours in a day, only so much money in a bank account, and only so much a person can give before there is nothing left.
If you see a cat that needs help, please don't automatically assume that someone else will handle it. -Step in if you can.- Foster. Help with TNR. Network a cat. Donate to a local rescue. Drive an animal to an appointment. Share a post. Help someone who is already trying to help.
You don't have to start a rescue to make a difference.
The stray and feral cat problem in our community will never change if the responsibility continues to fall on the same handful of people.
We don't know what the future holds for Little Jazzy Paws. Maybe this is a temporary pause. Maybe someday we'll have the ability to come back. Right now, we simply don't know.
What we do know is that we love these animals tremendously, and walking away from this has been one of the hardest decisions we've ever had to make.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us, adopted from us, donated, fostered, shared our posts, trusted us with your cats, or simply believed in what we were trying to do.
Little Jazzy Paws may be stepping back, but our love for these animals isn't going anywhere.❤️🐾
For now, we're going to take a breath, take care of ourselves, and make sure the cats already depending on us get the happy endings they deserve.
