DAY 5: KITTENS HAVING KITTENS 😿

Kittens can become pregnant as young as 4–5 months old.

Yes... kittens having kittens.

Their bodies aren't fully developed, which increases risks for:
⚠️ Pregnancy complications
⚠️ Illness
⚠️ Kitten mortality

Many people are surprised to learn that a kitten born in the spring can become a parent before the end of summer.

Early spay/neuter is safe, effective, and lifesaving.

The sooner we can prevent unwanted litters, the fewer kittens will be born into lives of uncertainty, illness, and homelessness.

“𝙄 𝙟𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚.”
Honestly?
𝙉𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙚.

Nobody doing TNR has extra time laying around.

😪The people trapping after work?
Tired.

😪The people setting alarms every 45 minutes to check traps?
Tired.

😪The people driving before sunrise to clinics?
Tired.

😪The people answering messages while cooking dinner, raising kids, working jobs, and barely holding their own life together?
Tired.

𝗡𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.
People just decide something matters enough to make room for it anyway.

That’s the part we wish more people understood.
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲?
𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

❗️Somebody rearranged their schedule.
❗️Lost sleep.
❗️Spent money.
❗️Sweated their ass off in the heat.
❗️Learned how to trap.
❗️Drove across counties.
❗️Was frustrated.
❗️Overwhelmed.
❗️Burnt out.
…𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽.

Because once you truly SEE the problem, it becomes really hard to ignore it.

This work is not built on people with unlimited time, money, or energy.

It’s built on ordinary people deciding:
“Someone needs to do something… so I guess it’s gonna be me.”

And honestly?
That mindset is the only reason any of this works at all.

The people making a difference in this community are not super human.

They’re exhausted, ordinary people who decided these “unowned” cats still mattered anyway.

🐾 ‼️AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION‼️🐾
PIPER & PETE 🖤
Can be adopted together or separately.

✨ Meet Piper — our little lion queen.
2 years old • Female • Spayed
Vaccinated (rabies + distemper), dewormed & flea prevention.

Piper has the most gorgeous long fluffy coat and will need regular brushing to keep her looking fabulous. She’s affectionate, lovable, and full of personality. This girl knows she’s royalty 👑 and will let you know when she’s done receiving pets. Piper prefers human companionship over other animals, but she has bonded with our calm, gentle male cat Pete. Would do best as only kitty or adopted with Pete. Unknown with dogs.

🖤 Meet Pete — the sweetest black kitty.
2 years old • Male • Neutered
Vaccinated (rabies + distemper), dewormed & flea prevention.

Pete is truly the total package. Calm, loving, gentle, and easygoing. He has a super relaxed demeanor and we believe he would do well in just about any household. Medium-length soft fur and the sweetest personality to match. There’s just something extra special about black cats 🐈‍⬛ unknown with dogs.

These two would love a home together, but it is not required. They’ve both been waiting for the right people to see how special they are.

Please message us if interested in adopting Piper, Pete, or both together 🐾

‼️STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION‼️
✅BONDED PAIR✅

Adaline & Amber are still patiently waiting for their forever home together 🧡 These bonded sisters have been with us since August of last year.

They are about a year and a half old, spayed, dewormed, and on flea preventative. They get along with other cats with a proper introduction and have even become friends with our lovely male cat Josiah here 🐾

At adoption events they tend to get scared and overwhelmed, which causes people to pass them by. But once they know their people and feel safe in their surroundings, they are incredibly sweet, gentle girls that beg for attention.

Please help us find Adaline & Amber the forever home they’ve been waiting for.

‼️ADOPTED‼️

Meet Blossom 🌸🐈‍⬛
Blossom is a 1-year-old spayed female looking for a forever home of her own. She is dewormed, up to date on flea prevention, and has received her rabies vaccine.

This sweet girl is incredibly affectionate and will nonstop purr, make biscuits, and talk to you all day long. She absolutely loves attention and pets, and she’s very adventurous with plenty of playful kitten energy still left in her.

Blossom is very friendly with other cats and has never hissed or growled while in our care. Unknown with dogs.

There is something truly special about this little black cat, and she deserves a family who will see how amazing she is. 🖤

Meet Aurora 🐾 Located in Shiawassee County.

Aurora is a rescue and is currently staying with a foster. This beautiful girl has been waiting far too long for a place to finally call home. Aurora is a 1.5 year-old, 50 lb Staffordshire Terrier with a playful spirit and a big love for playing ball. She’s spayed, full of energy, and would thrive with someone who can give her daily exercise, patience, and love.

She would do best as the only dog in the house. She’s been around older kids, but we’re unsure how she would do with younger children. She does have a strong prey drive, so a home without cats would be ideal.

Aurora loves car rides and enjoys going on walks. She does very well out in public and doesn’t bark at other dogs while walking.

Aurora forms a strong bond with her people and will be an incredibly loyal companion to the right person.

Her perfect home would be with someone familiar with the breed and committed to giving her the stable, loving life she deserves.

Please share to help Aurora finally find her forever family ❤️
For more information about her or to schedule a meet and greet, text Angel at 810-964-0732.

I guess this sweet little guy is staying with us until we can get him ready for adoption. We’ve posted him on multiple lost and found pages, but unfortunately nobody has claimed him. I really had hope that someone would come forward looking for him as their lost cat 🫩 but it’s starting to look like he may be another dumped cat. I decided to name him Flynn Rider.

I was out working in my garage when I heard loud meowing outside. The second I opened the garage door, he came zooming in completely distraught. He was obviously starving and immediately scarfed down the two cans of food I gave him. I got him set up in a catio, and for the first couple of days all he wanted to do was curl up on his blanket. That instantly told me he was used to being an indoor cat because he found so much comfort in household items and being around people.

He was extremely malnourished when he showed up, and he’s still very thin, but he’s slowly gaining weight. You could clearly see his hips and spine sticking out. His tail had infected bite wounds that have now been treated, and he has some patches of missing fur, likely from stress since I couldn’t find any fleas on him.

He is obviously someone’s former house cat. He’s incredibly sweet, loves being a lap cat, purrs nonstop, and talks all the time. He’ll be getting neutered soon, and hopefully after that he can find an amazing forever home.

I guess in the end he knew where to come for help. Don’t turn a blind eye to animals in need — you might be their only hope.

Straw vs. Blankets: The Mistake That Freezes Cats. ❄️🐈

The intention is kind: "It's freezing outside, I'll put a soft old quilt in the stray cat's shelter." The result is catastrophic: You might kill them. In the US, where winters can be brutal, the Golden Rule of rescue is: "Straw for Strays." Never fabric.

🥶 1. The Physics of Moisture Fabrics (towels, sheets, fleece) act like sponges. They absorb moisture from the air and, crucially, the water v***r from the cat's own breath. As soon as the temperature drops, this moisture freezes. The soft blanket becomes a rigid block of ice. Instead of warming the animal, it siphons body heat away (water conducts cold 25x faster than air). The cat ends up hypothermic on its own bed.

🌾 2. Straw: The Hollow Insulator Warning: We mean Straw (yellow hollow stalks), not Hay (green dried grass for eating). Straw is a miracle of natural engineering. Each stalk is a hollow tube that traps dead air. It works on the same principle as double-paned windows. Furthermore, straw is hydrophobic: it doesn't absorb water. Moisture drips through it to the floor, keeping the cat dry.

🔥 3. The Burrow Effect A blanket stays flat. Straw allows the cat to burrow. By digging a nest, the cat creates a small pocket of warm air, insulated by thousands of straw tubes. It is the most efficient heating system available in nature.

The Memo: If you are prepping a winter shelter:

Remove the towels (they freeze).

Remove the Hay (it molds and causes allergies).

Fill it with Straw halfway up.

📌 QUICK FAQ
Q: What about Hay? Is it the same thing? R: NO, IT IS DANGEROUS. 🛑 Hay is dried grass meant for food (horses/rabbits). It is full of nutrients, absorbs moisture like a sponge, and molds very quickly, becoming a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi. Wet hay also freezes. Straw = Bedding. Hay = Food.

Q: What if I change the blankets every day? R: It’s risky. ⏳ Unless you can check the shelter every 12 hours, a snowstorm or a wet night can happen at any moment. If you are away for 24 hours, the cat risks freezing. Straw offers passive safety for weeks at a time.

Q: Where do I buy straw? R: Home Depot & Tractor Supply. 🏪 In the US, you can find "Straw Bales" easily in the fall (garden centers) or year-round at farm supply stores like Tractor Supply Co. or local feed stores. It is very cheap (usually $5-$10 a bale).
