Paint Dunedin Purple (PDP) was created nearly 8 years ago by Steve Olson, a Dunedin resident who was moved to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimer's Association because his mother suffered from Alzheimer’s. After the first year of flying solo, he connected with local business owners to engage them in his efforts. In 2025 over 80 businesses were involved and did a variety of activities from
just wearing purple, to serving purple food and drinks, holding educational opportunities, pub crawls and other fundraisers. Dunedin really gets involved in Paint Dunedin Purple. A sea of purple is seen on the day of the event. The event has been held in many different months over the course of the last 8 years but in 2024 the PDP committee decided to settle on the month of March to take advantage of all the travelers coming to Florida. In 2026, we are taking it to a new level as we are observing Paint Dunedin Purple from Saturday, March 21st to Saturday, March 28th. In celebration of the Alzheimer's Association transition from The Longest Day, their signature Do-It-Yourself fundraising event, with a fresh name — Do What You Love to End ALZ™ which really opens up the opportunities to do more things for Paint Dunedin Purple. We will be adding a Pickleball Tournament, a Mahjong Tournament and are open to other ways businesses and organizations can help us Paint Dunedin Purple. We invite everyone to Paint Dunedin Purple with us to end Alzheimer's in our lifetime.
