Zone, as a collaborative program, is to offer a safe and engaging out-of-school time program that complements the school day and creates an enriching environment that fosters positive youth development and academic success. Paramount to our program is consistent and caring relationships between young people and adults and between young people and their peers. We strive to have constructive well-pl
anned schedules and activities that are tailored to the youth we serve. We provide sufficient and clean program space. We maintain strong partnerships with young people, families, schools and our community. Our staff and volunteers are committed and well trained. Program Goals:
The K.E.Y. Zone program will place a primary emphasis on the development of social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and recreational skills that are developmentally appropriate for children. We accomplish these needs by programming activities based on our components. These components encourage and support self-initiated learning and provide a balance of staff directed and student choice activities. KEY COMPONENTS TO THE K.E.Y. ZONE PROGRAM
• Quality School Aged Care
We are committed to providing quality care for all K.E.Y. Zone participants while keeping students physically and emotionally safe.
• Academic Enrichment
Through Brain Time and Clubs we provide students with the opportunity to engage in fun and meaningful activities that will allow them to build on academic development beyond homework help.
• Academic Support
With our extra help, children develop a love of reading and math while building literacy and academic involvement. We offer tutoring that supports what is being taught in the classroom and identify academic goals for individual students.
• Creative Arts
Drama, music, art, crafts, story writing and community service projects promote self-expression and a greater sense of imagination and creativity.
• Character Development and Leadership
We incorporate the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility into playing with friends, learning, and other social activities.
• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Designing, constructing, testing, analyzing and rebuilding with recycled materials, legos, Knex, straws, and many other materials taps into creative minds of the youth in our programs.
• Health & Wellness
Gym and outside time is offered daily. Staff members teach and facilitate non-competitive gym games centered on health and wellness. A healthy snack is provided daily for youth.
• Service Learning
Students have the opportunity to participate in service learning projects around our community that make a difference.
