The Lantern Center Presentation Lantern Center offers hospitality, educational opportunities to adult immigrants. Tutoring in English language, preparation for the U.S.

The Sisters of the Presentation initiated this ministry of welcome in the Dubuque area with a primary focus on immigrants. Since 2002, the center has provided hospitality, educational opportunities and advocacy to over 1,000 immigrants from five continents and over 58 countries. Citizenship test, and the development of life skills in a new culture are among the key experiences offered at Presentat

ion Lantern Center. With this support, immigrants are better equipped to establish and maintain roots in the Greater Dubuque area and become more integrated, engaged members of the community.

We are seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English speaking) Community Outreach Specialist to join our team. This new position will provide case management and work in conjunction with local businesses to increase access to English language tutoring and cultural orientation. The new employee, along with Lantern staff and volunteers, will help us expand our mission of empowering people newer to the Dubuque and tristate area to feel welcomed and included in our community. Volunteers, students, board members and staff gathered for the Lantern Center’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic at Eagle Point Park on August 18. We also announced our new Arts Across Cultures creative expressions program. We enjoyed the delicious food catered by Mindful Bites!

In 2025, our dedicated volunteers gave an incredible 4,950 hours of service to the Lantern Center!

Our Lantern Award was awarded to Tom Boxleiter and Dianne Gibson!

We also recognized our Champion Award recipients Art Roche and the Sisters of the Presentation

10-Year Award recipients included Mary Hoelscher, Sharon Speckhard, Becky Taylor-Harris, Sue Ward and Beth Whisler

Many thanks to all of our amazing volunteers who dedicated 4,950 hours of service last year!

Más de 200 miembros de la comunidad, incluyendo 20 integrantes del clero y monjas religiosas, acompañamos con éxito a 10 miembros de Escucha Mi Voz y sus familias a sus citas obligatorias con ICE.

Los 10 salieron de sus citas y regresaron a casa con sus familias.

Además, nuestro equipo dio seguimiento a un total de 52 personas inmigrantes que entraron a la oficina de ICE para sus citas obligatorias. Todas salieron de manera segura y regresaron a casa con sus familias.

Dos personas haitianas fueron detenidas. Además, una mujer de West Liberty con una petición I-130 pendiente también fue detenida injustamente. Escucha Mi Voz exige su liberación inmediata.

Nuestro acompañamiento protector, liderado por inmigrantes, continúa hasta que la última persona que sigue esperando salga sana y segura o reciba el apoyo solidario que necesite.

It was a blast to welcome thousands of bikers from all over the country and the world to Dubuque, Iowa’s most philanthropic city and where Iowa started! People were pumped to be done with the ride and ready to celebrate 🎉 their successful ride in Dubuque!
