The journey started by acquiring these old cars from the Dublin Village Apartments. How they got there is still a mystery but from there is where I took them in and started care because they were going to be scrapped. In the beginning I used them as a fun little thing to take around the yard and mess around with. I started hearing some rumors and stuff about what these things used to be so I started research in late 2021. After finding some history books and asking around town I found the old store owners number (Lewis Anthony) and gave him a call. Come to find out his granddaughter had recently sold me my new at the time iPhone. From there I got the original logo, some cool history on Lewis & Mary Anthony, and had McPrinting “redo” the logo for me and made some stickers for the sides. I might be getting some shirts made for the cars. During the rest of 2021 and early 2022 it was hammer down on getting these things ready for Canal Days. The cars hadn’t been in Canal Days since 1999! This restoration consisted of a new hitch system, repaint, new wheels, and some other touchups. The original hitch system was actually door hinges but my dad and I replaced them with a push pin system like tractors use. New paint consisted of touchups, new stripes in 2024 on the black truck, and the duck got new eyes. Wheels were in dire need of replacing due to being original and broken in a private event. A LOT stronger wheels are now being used. More things include the numbers on the side of the train, rubber ducks on the duck, hood ornament on the green car, stuffed animals in the cage car, and a soon to be lighting system for later 2025. More plans are underway and I’m always open to any ideas!
