🕯️

It is with both deep gratitude and deep sadness that I share with you our newest recipient of The Sterling Fund, Sally.

Sally’s owners passed away two years ago, leaving her behind on a property in the greater Austin area, without the things a horse needs to thrive- proper nutrition, shelter, vet care, a herd. A Facebook ad was spotted by a horse loving community member who knew that given her condition, she’d likely fall into the hands of a horse trader. We took the call instead and began the process of planning for Sally’s sanctuary at haven. As concerns for her wellbeing and ability to make the haul grew, we had a vet make a farm call first. It was confirmed that beyond her total blindness, from neglected long term uveitis, she was in liver failure. The vet team felt strongly that kindness for Sally looked like euthanasia right at home, where she’d spent all of her days. The owner’s surviving family agreed, and Sally will be buried there on the land, under the footsteps of the wildlife, who were her recent companions.

I continue to hold vision of a world where we help one another keep horses.

Meantime, thank you for your generous donations that allow us to continue this beautiful offering.

This is one of the hardest updates I’ve ever had to share.

As of right now, haven is on an intake hold. We are simply out of funds to responsibly take in more animals while continuing to care for the ones already here.

It takes over $30,000 every single month to keep haven running. Feed, farrier, veterinary care, land stewardship, staffing, and daily care. We have reached a point where one time donations are no longer enough to sustain this work long term.

Monthly support is what keeps a sanctuary open. It allows us to plan, to provide consistent care, and to ensure the animals here are never compromised. Without a meaningful increase in recurring donations as we move toward spring, we will be forced to make the heartbreaking decision to close haven’s doors.

If this place has ever meant something to you, if these animals have touched your heart, or if you believe in creating safe landings for lives that have nowhere else to go, I am asking you to step in now. Even a small monthly donation makes a difference when we do this together.

The link to set up monthly support is in our bio. Thank you for being here, for listening, and for caring. Please like, comment, and share to expand the reach of our ask 🤍

As a small thank you for helping support haven, we will be sending a limited number of haven branded tees with $150+ donations, while supplies last.

These tees are made from Regenerative Organic Pima cotton and printed with nontoxic black algae ink. They feel like your favorite worn in vintage tee- soft, breathable, and made to last. Simple, comfortable, and easy, the kind of piece you reach for without thinking.

Your donation helps cover the very real costs of running this place, over $30,000 every month for feed, veterinary care, farrier work, land stewardship, and daily care for the animals who call haven home. Every contribution helps keep the doors open and the animals supported with consistency and dignity.

This tee is just a small way for me to say thank you for being part of this work and helping carry it forward. Link in bio if you feel called to support 🤍

In 2025, this work taught me more about resilience than I ever expected. About staying present through heartbreak, allowing myself the time and space to heal, and learning to listen, really listen, to what these animals are asking of us.

They teach patience. Boundaries. When to slow down. When to stand firm. And when to ask for help instead of trying to hold everything alone.

One of the most powerful lessons this year was seeing what small rescues can accomplish together. The shared resources, the late night calls, the quiet wins, the collective care. There is so much strength in numbers, and I’m carrying that hope with me as we look toward 2026.

Right now, haven needs that same kind of community support. Keeping this place open takes over $30,000 each month, and I’m learning that asking for help is not weakness, it’s responsibility. Monthly donors are what make consistency, care, and longevity possible here.

If this work resonates with you, if these lessons feel familiar, or if you believe in protecting spaces like this, your support truly matters. Link in bio to help carry haven forward.

Meet the haven herd, part 2!

Each face you see here represents a life that needed somewhere safe to land and a commitment we make every single day to show up for them with care, consistency, and compassion.

Running haven takes over $30,000 each month. Feed, farrier, veterinary care, land stewardship, staffing, and the quiet, unglamorous work of keeping everyone healthy and comfortable. It adds up quickly, and right now, we truly need help to keep going.

Soul sponsorships are what sustain this place. They allow us to plan ahead, say yes to the animals already here, and ensure no one is left without the care they deserve. Monthly support gives these horses and livestock stability, not just survival.

If you have ever felt connected to this work, to these animals, or to the idea of radical compassion in action, this is the moment to step in. Your sponsorship directly supports the herd you see here and helps keep haven standing, breathing, and open.

Link in bio to become a soul sponsor or contribute in any way you can. Every dollar matters, and every sponsor makes a difference.

Walking this path as a single mom has been both the hardest and most meaningful part of it all.

After losing my husband, my dad, and my uncles who helped raise me, life changed in ways I never could have prepared for. Grief reshapes everything. This land, and eventually haven, became a place where healing could happen slowly, honestly, and alongside animals who understand loss in their own way.

Through it all, Alex has been right here with me. Growing up with blind horses, learning compassion, responsibility, and care, watching him move through this world with so much heart has been the greatest blessing of my life. He is the reason I keep choosing hope, even on the hardest days.

haven exists because of love, resilience, and community. Right now, keeping haven operating takes over $30,000 every month. I’m asking for help so we can continue caring for the animals already here and protect the future of this place we’ve built together.

If this story resonates with you, or if you believe in creating spaces where healing is possible, please consider donating or setting up monthly support. Your generosity helps keep haven’s doors open. Link in bio 🤍
