Across 2,100 farms in this state, NC pork farmers are already at work before sunrise. Feeding. Checking. Sustaining. Planning. It is this daily commitment that keeps North Carolina ranked as the third largest pork-producing state in the country. This is not a 9-to-5 industry. It is a vocation, and it feeds millions.

Combining simple pleasures: bacon & pancakes 🥓🥞

Method: cook your bacon how you like it, pat off the grease. Prepare your pancake mix and heat a medium sized skillet on medium, shape pancake dough in the pan to length and width of bacon, lay a piece of bacon on top, add more pancake dough, flip until both sides are golden. Dunk in some syrup! 👩🏼‍🍳

Freeze additionals for easy week day breakfasts. ☀️

A simple life until he’s on the track. Joseph Jennette enjoys pig farming and race car driving! He always has his shotgun rider by his side, his wife Lisa Jennette, who also helps on the farm. They own a wean-to-finish farm contracted with Smithfield, located in the Smith Chapel Community (Mount Olive). They also farm corn, soybeans, and wheat. Jennette got his first set of pigs when he was 21. His father always farmed corn, soybeans, and wheat, but Jennette felt the need to diversify the farm a bit more. Jennette was hesitant about being on the camera but said he knows the importance of putting a face behind the product and highlighting the industry in a positive way. Jennette is also a firefighter, active in his church and community.

Wave the checkered flag; Jennette wins on the track and is an amazing farmer and community member. We are beyond stoked to honor Joseph Jennette for our May Person Behind Pork.

The heroes that laid down their lives for us are written in our every day freedoms. So grill out, enjoy time with friends and family, spend time on the farm, but let’s also reflect today and every day on those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Happy Memorial Day. 🇺🇸

We are blessed to live in the land of the free because of the brave. ❤️
