Downingtown Strong

Downingtown Strong The mission of Downingtown Strong is to aid those in the Downingtown area who have been impacted by a natural disaster or an emergency hardship.

Downingtown Strong is a community-based non-profit created to provide coordination and recovery services to Borough residents adversely impacted by flooding, fires, and other natural disasters or emergencies. This aid may be temporary, such as food or shelter in the immediate aftermath of a storm or home fire, or long-term assistance with housing, childcare, or counseling. Downingtown Strong was f

ounded in 2023 by individuals from the same neighborhoods served, and is made up of a team of dedicated local volunteers. We believe the combined efforts of neighbors helping neighbors is the best strategy for creating a more equitable and whole community.

Today, a couple of our volunteers joined Borough Council President, Joe Ferris, and a dozen others at Community CPR Day, presented by the Minquas Fire Company No. 2 EMS and East Brandywine Fire Company. First responders Dave, Greg, Danny, Nick, Rachel, and Sean provided free, hands-on CPR training to build our lifesaving skills. They did a great job!
We learned that 70 percent of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen in the home. If you are ever called on to give CPR in an emergency, you will most likely be trying to save the life of someone you love. We encourage everyone to attend one of these incredibly important trainings. BE THE DIFFERENCE FOR YOUR PARENT, SPOUSE, OR CHILD!

“IF YOU LOOK THE RIGHT WAY, YOU CAN SEE THAT THE WHOLE WORLD IS A GARDEN.” We think Frances Hodgson Burnett was on to something. Our perspective can unlock the magic in the everyday. Today, Downingtown Strong worked alongside members of Central Presbyterian Church (Downingtown) and the Uwchlan Garden Club to plant the summer flowers at the welcome sign at the Routes 30 and 113 intersection. Big thanks go out to Jack Law and his great Public Works team and to Becky, Bill, Cari, Carolyn, Deborah, Linda, Pam and Kevin for making it happen.
BEST WISHES TO EVERYONE FOR A MAGICAL SUMMER!!!

We are honored to see this shout-out from the Community Warehouse Project of Chester County, spotlighting our Executive Director, Kevin Zeeger, for his work with their great organization. Thank you Christine and Glenda!
CWP is the Gold Standard for furniture banks in the region and has been a valued community partner of ours since we got started in 2024.
Truly, TOGETHER, we are Downingtown Strong!!!

CWP wants to recognize one of our amazing volunteers, Kevin Zeeger!

When Kevin comes into the warehouse every Tuesday, his first sentence is "how can I help today"? He is always willing to do furniture pick ups throughout the community to ensure that our warehouse is continuously full, and provides warehouse support anywhere and everywhere it is needed.

Kevin was also recently recognized as Citizen of the Year for all of his hard work throughout the local community. It is people like Kevin, who are passionate about community support and participation, that make CWP thrive.

Thank you, Kevin for all you do for CWP!

Today, Downingtown Strong went beyond its ordinary scope to help an extra-ordinary member of our community. Mary DelRossi has been a friendly face at the Downingtown McDonald’s for many decades and now she is our neighbor, too! We helped her move into her new apartment in the Borough. Mary is someone who always goes above and beyond for the people she serves. She is the epitome of Downingtown Strong! Welcome, Mary!

This morning our Treasurer, Leann, and Director, Kevin, joined our friends at the Downingtown Main Street Association, Rotary Club of Thorndale-Downingtown, and about 30 others to help clean up litter along our streets and at our parks. It was a great morning and our little town is even more beautiful than before! Many thanks to Kimberton Whole Foods and East Branch Brewing Company for the pre- and post-work refreshments!

We are always incredibly proud of our Executive Director, Kevin Zeeger. This week, we got the chance to celebrate that pride publicly thanks to the Downingtown Area Chamber of Commerce.

They honored our fearless leader with its Citizen of the Year award, and we were there alongside his lovely wife, Becky, and their daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter to cheer him on!

He was introduced by our fellow board member and Executive Pastor of Mission Community Church, Andy Webster. Andy lauded Kevin for the myriad ways he has worked to make Downingtown a better, safer, and more welcoming place.

Kevin, during his acceptance speech, humbly encouraged everyone to "open [their] eyes" to see how they can use their talents and skills to respond to neighbors in need. His heart and genuine compassion for this community continues to shine through in all he does. We are so grateful for his leadership, service, and example.

Congratulations, Kevin. We applaud you today and every day!

We would also like to extend congratulations to The Lord's Pantry for being recognized as Nonprofit of the Year as well as the Hankin Group for being recognized as Business of the Year. What a truly impressive neighborhood we live in!

Most especially Kevin Zeeger, our fearless leader and this year’s Citizen of the Year! 🎉

As a disaster preparedness and recovery organization, Downingtown Strong spends a lot of time and effort preparing for things we hope we never have to do. Luckily, although yesterday’s storm brought a lot of snow and wintery mix, the feared widespread power outages did not occur and we did not have to open our Warming Center. But we were prepared! Thanks to our wonderful supporters, Central Presbyterian Church was set up and fully stocked and we had many volunteers on stand-by to come in if called.
We thank all of supporters and volunteers, Downingtown Borough, and Central Pres for partnering in this effort. We are confident that we will be prepared again the next time we are needed because, TOGETHER, we are Downingtown Strong!!
