Meet Milo: Your Sensitive, Sweater-Wearing Shadow
Adoption fee: $400

Hi, I’m Milo! I’m a fawn male Doberman (born November 2024) with cropped but adorably floppy ears and a docked tail. I’m handsome, athletic, and look fantastic in a sweater when it’s cold, which I fully expect you to provide.

A Little About Me:

Personality:
I’m playful, loving, and high-energy, but I also have a sensitive soul. I came from a neglect situation where I spent most of my time crated in a garage, so new situations can make me nervous. Because of that, I thrive with structure, routine, and calm leadership.

I love my people deeply, like, Velcro-level deeply. I want nothing more than to make you happy and be loved on. I just need a little time to warm up to new humans. Once I trust you? I’m yours.

I get along great with female dogs (I have a lady friend in my foster home now), but absolutely no male dogs for me.

My Story:
My early life wasn’t what it should have been. I didn’t get the stability or care I deserved, and it left me with some anxiety. Luckily I was saved by my foster family, but they know that they are not the best home for me long term so they reached out to the rescue to find the home from that is. The good news? I’m already improving with consistency and patience. I’m currently on medication to help manage my anxiety, and with the right home, I can continue to relax and grow.

Manners and Training:
I’m a quick learner and already know how to sit and ring a bell at the door when I need to go outside (yes, I’m that smart). I walk beautifully on a gentle leader and am not reactive to dogs or people on walks.

Now for full transparency: I have strong fears around nail trims and ear cleanings. I will shake and may nip if you rush me. This is clearly tied to bad past experiences. I must wear a soft muzzle during those activities, and they need to be handled slowly and calmly. Outside of that specific scenario, I do not have aggression toward people.

I do best in a home with a strict routine, clear structure, and calm, confident leadership. A quieter environment will help me feel safe and steady. Because I need predictability, I’m not a match for homes with small children.

Special Considerations:
I need to live with female dogs only, and introductions should always be thoughtful and structured. Ongoing anxiety management will be part of my life, and grooming tasks like nail trims and ear cleanings must be handled patiently and safely with a muzzle. With the right leadership and consistency, I absolutely thrive — but I am not a “wing it and hope for the best” kind of dog.

Health and Vetting:
I’m neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and negative for intestinal parasites. Physically healthy and ready to go.

Why You’ll Love Me:
Underneath my nerves is a deeply loyal, affectionate boy who wants nothing more than to belong. Give me structure, patience, and consistency, and I will give you my whole heart. Plus, I look extremely cute in sweaters, which is obviously a major bonus.

I’m not the loudest dog in the room, I’m the one quietly choosing my person.

Maybe it’s you. 🐾❤️

Love,
Milo

Meet Twix: Your Sweet, Spicy, Super-Smart Survivor

Hey there, I’m Twix! I’m a 1-year-old black and tan Doberman with natural ears, a docked tail, and enough personality to fill a whole candy aisle. I’m playful, cuddly, unbelievably smart, and—full transparency—a bit of a medical miracle. I survived an obstruction surgery that almost took me out, and because of that, I’m looking for a very special, very experienced Doberman-human to help keep me safe… and keep life fun!

Personality:
I’m a sweet, goofy girl who loves to play, especially with male dogs. I warm up to other dogs just fine, but I do need a slow introduction so I don’t get overwhelmed. I’m affectionate, mischievous in the cutest way, and full of puppy joy. I do have some anxiety and pica, so regular exercise and mental stimulation are a MUST for me—bored Twix turns into “I wonder if I can eat that?” Twix. (Spoiler: I absolutely will try.)

My Story:
I came into rescue after a life-threatening gastrointestinal obstruction required emergency surgery. This wasn't my first, it was my second in a month and my previous owner could not afford the second surgery after I wiped his bank account out with the first. It was touch-and-go but I survived. The vets made it clear: I cannot undergo another obstruction surgery and live through it. Because of that, keeping me safe from eating inappropriate objects isn’t just important—it’s life or death. Don’t worry though, I’m not fragile… I’m just a little too curious about the world with my mouth.

Manners & Training:
I’m incredibly smart—like scary smart. I already know:
Sit • Kennel Up • Lay Down • Touch • Watch • And I’m muzzle-trained!

Because of my pica, I must be crated or properly muzzled anytime I cannot be watched like a hawk. This is not optional for my safety. But the good news? I wear my muzzle like a total pro.

I’m potty trained and crate trained, though I still need some leash work. I’ve shown some food aggression, so I need a child-free home both now and in the future—kids drop things, and I cannot risk grabbing something dangerous or defending food.

Special Considerations:
• I need a Doberman-experienced owner who understands working breeds, structure, and management.
• Pica + anxiety means I need exercise, training, and enrichment every single day.
• I cannot safely be left unsupervised without a crate or muzzle—ever.
• Food aggression means no children in the home.
• I prefer male dogs for play, but I’m friendly with most dogs with slow intros.
If you’re diligent, structured, and proactive—and ready to commit—I will thrive with you.

Health & Vetting:
I’m spayed, vaccinated (rabies, Bordetella, distemper combo), microchipped, heartworm negative, and negative for intestinal parasites. Physically, I’m doing great. Mentally? I just need someone who understands me.

Why You’ll Love Me:
I am sweet, loving, playful, and ridiculously trainable. I bond hard, adore my people, and want nothing more than to be a good girl. I just need someone dedicated, attentive, and ready to help me succeed. If you’re looking for a bright, goofy, loyal companion who will give you her whole heart—and you’re willing to manage her quirks—then I might be the perfect match for you.

Can’t wait to meet you! 🐾❤️

Twix

Twix is just about a year old, but she’s already survived more than most dogs ever face. She came to us in critical condition. She was not eating, barely moving, and within hours of a life-threatening intestinal obstruction. She was rushed to UGA for emergency surgery.

What should have been a routine obstruction removal became a complicated, touch-and-go procedure. Just a month earlier, Twix had undergone a similar surgery elsewhere, leaving her with adhesions, a shortened intestine, and a dangerously high risk of perforation. Her owner could barely afford the first surgery and made the difficult decision to surrender her to save her life. The team at UGA worked carefully, and against the odds, Twix pulled through.

Her total medical cost including surgery, hospitalization, and aftercare, came to $7,021.75. We’re sharing her invoices and intake photos so you can see exactly what went into saving her life. Twix’s care cost more than twice what we expected and fully depleted the fund that allows us to respond instantly when a Doberman is in crisis. Our emergency fund is now empty. This is a large part of the reason we made the difficult decision to close down intake until the new year.

If you’re able, a donation of any amount helps us rebuild that fund so we can keep saying yes when urgent calls come in. You can donate on this Facebook post, or directly using one of the methods on our website here: https://www.georgiadobermanrescue.com/help-gdr/donate/

Twix will be available for adoption in the coming days, and thanks to supporters like you, she now has the chance at the healthy, happy life she deserves.

Meet Summer: The Chill, Cuddly Unicorn of Dobermans

Hey there, I’m Summer! I’m a 4-year-old black and rust female Doberman with classy cropped ears, a docked tail, and curves that prove I’ve had a few too many litters. Don’t worry, I’ve retired from that life. Now, I’m all about the good stuff: naps, cuddles, and gentle strolls around the yard.

Personality:
They say unicorn Dobermans don’t exist—young, calm, and cropped—but here I am. I’m the rare, laid-back dobe who doesn’t need to run marathons or chase tennis balls for hours. I prefer a slow, peaceful lifestyle filled with pets, snacks, and love. Walks? They’re fine, but honestly, a fenced yard for sniffing and sunbathing sounds way better.
If you think you’ve pet me enough, you’re wrong. There is no such thing as too many cuddles. If your hands get tired, I’ll happily accept pets from your feet too. The more people petting me, the better!

My Story:
It’s clear I was overbred before coming into rescue, but those days are behind me. Now, I’m soaking up the easy life—soft beds, cozy crates, and all the attention I can get. I’m ready to trade in my old life for one filled with love, comfort, and endless affection.

Manners & Training:
I’m crate trained, potty trained, and a total pro on the leash. I ride beautifully in the car and am overall just an easy, mellow companion. I’ll play with my foster brother when the mood strikes me (usually when Mercury is in retrograde), but otherwise, I’m perfectly happy to just hang out and supervise from the couch.

Health & Vetting:
I’m spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all my vaccines (rabies, Bordetella, and distemper). I tested negative for intestinal parasites and completed heartworm treatment successfully—so I’m officially healthy, happy, and ready for my forever home.

Why You’ll Love Me:
If you’re looking for a low-maintenance lovebug who will happily spend her days lounging by your side and soaking up all your affection, I’m your girl. I’m great with other dogs, kids, and probably cats too (I’m more of a lover than a hunter). I’m sweet, calm, and endlessly affectionate, your perfect companion for cozy nights and lazy weekends.

Can’t wait to meet you!
Love,
Summer

Meet RJ: Your Big-Hearted Protector with a Playful Streak

Hey there, I’m RJ! I’m a 6-year-old red and rust Doberman with natural ears, a docked tail, and a whole lot of love to give. I’m a big guy; 96 pounds of muscle, mischief, and heart, but I promise, most of that weight is pure affection (and maybe a little bit of counter-surfing skill).

Personality:
I’m playful, loving, and full of energy! Even though I’m six, I’m basically a puppy in a grown-up body. I love people, kids, and other dogs, and I thrive when I’m part of the action. I’m strong, silly, and loyal to a fault. We’re not sure how I feel about cats or small animals yet, but given my size and enthusiasm, maybe let’s start slow there.

My Story:
I was adopted a few years ago by one of Georgia Doberman Rescue’s biggest supporters. He and I were inseparable. He was my person, and I made it my mission to protect him. When he became ill and collapsed, I stayed right by his side until help arrived. My devotion ran deep, but now that he can no longer care for me, GDR welcomed me back with open arms. I’m ready to find my next forever family to love and protect.

Manners & Training:
I’m crate-trained, potty-trained, and walk well on a leash. I’m also a great passenger in the car, especially when I get to ride in a crate. I do have one tiny flaw… I’m a bit of a counter surfer. If it smells good and it’s within reach, I consider it fair game. Otherwise, I’m a total gentleman.

Health & Vetting:
I’m neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all my vaccines (rabies, Bordetella, and combo). I’m also heartworm negative and free of intestinal parasites, so I’m healthy, happy, and ready to go home.

Why You’ll Love Me:
If you’re looking for a loyal, goofy, and protective companion who’ll stick by you through thick and thin, I’m your guy. I’m strong, affectionate, and full of heart—always ready for a game of fetch, a long walk, or a good cuddle on the couch.

So what do you say? Got room for a big, loyal lovebug in your life? Apply to adopt me today!

Love,
RJ

Important Update from Georgia Doberman Rescue

We need to share something hard: Georgia Doberman Rescue will be pausing all intake until the end of the year while we reassess the future of our rescue.

The truth is simple and heavy:
We don’t have enough fosters.
We don’t have enough volunteers.
We don’t have enough donations.
And adoptions have slowed to a trickle.

When we took in the 4 Ohio Dobermans earlier this summer, we had a glimmer of hope. We had an avalanche of foster applications. But when people found out they wouldn’t be fostering one of the Ohio dogs and we asked them to foster other dogs just as deserving and desperate, every single one backed out. Every. Single. One. That was a gut punch.

Right now, there are just 3 of us carrying the weight of this rescue. Between the flood of dogs in need, rising vet costs (an adoption fee almost never covers what we spend to vet each dog), and the sheer exhaustion of trying to do it all, we simply cannot continue to rescue without burning out completely. We also have jobs, families and our own dogs on top of GDR.

So here’s what we’re focusing on through the end of the year:
1. Getting our current dogs adopted into safe, loving homes
2. Finding fosters who are truly committed—dogs can’t be saved without them
3. Growing our volunteer base, so the burden doesn’t fall on just a few

The truth is, the future of Georgia Doberman Rescue will depend entirely on the support we receive over the next few months. If you’ve ever thought about helping, now is the time.

If you’re in Georgia, South Carolina, or Alabama, we need you. You can complete a volunteer application here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScAbLp43kRiWDeUgwVLCz-ZQ2AvPiGwgXJcM_s4c0v_bsittw/viewform
Or a foster application here: http://www.georgiadobermanrescue.com/foster-application/

If you’re outside these states, please reach out to your local rescue. Everyone is struggling right now. We promise your help will matter there too.

This isn’t the post we wanted to write, but it’s the reality of rescue. We can’t do it alone. Please, if you can foster, volunteer, or donate, step forward. The Dobermans need you. We need you.

‼️‼️‼️ URGENT FOSTER NEEDED ‼️‼️‼️

Jussie, a 7-year-old Doberman, and Kokie, a 12-year-old Terrier mix, had their world turned upside down when their owner passed away. They don’t understand why their home is gone, they only know they still have each other.

This is what rescue is meant for: stepping in when tragedy strikes and giving dogs like Jussie and Kokie a soft place to land. But right now, we can’t do it without you. Fosters are the heartbeat of rescue and the shortage is so serious that organizations like ours are at real risk of shutting down.

Please don’t scroll by thinking someone else will step up. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now is the time.

We cover vet care and support; you provide love and a safe place.

If you have room in your heart and home for this pair, even temporarily, you can be the reason they get to stay together.

Foster application: http://www.georgiadobermanrescue.com/foster-application/

Please share. Jussie and Kokie’s story deserves a new beginning. ❤

Meet Mia: The Blanket-Burrowing, Snack-Seeking, Couch-Conquering Queen

Hi, I’m Mia! I’m an (estimated) 4-year-old red and rust Doberman with cropped ears, a docked tail, and legs for days — seriously, I’m about 29 inches tall from paw to shoulder, so I get great views of your countertops (and anything you might “accidentally” leave there).

A Little About Me:

Personality:
I’m a laid-back girl with a PhD in relaxation. My ideal day? Find the softest spot in the house, burrow under a blanket, and stay there until food, pets, or potty breaks call my name. I’m affectionate but not clingy — I’ll paw you for more scritches if you stop too soon, but I’m also happy to snooze the day away.

My Story:
I was a frequent flyer at my local shelter. I got out of my yard a few times and were taken in by the pet-police, but this last time was because I was a dog-child of divorce. Meaning my family didn't want me anymore and I got passed around before ending back in the shelter. They have a soft spot for me (I mean, who doesn't) and asked Georgia Doberman Rescue to take me and give me the second chance I deserve.

Manners and Training:
I’m crate trained, potty trained, and know “sit” and “wait.” I’m food-motivated (to put it mildly), so teaching me new tricks will be easy — as long as snacks are involved. I walk on leash, but I can pull when I’m excited, so a little more practice will make me perfect. At the vet or in public, I’m calm and patient, just happy to hang out by your side.

Special Considerations:
I’m still working on gaining weight, so dinner time is a big deal for me. I’m curious about small dogs and cats — maybe a little too curious — so careful introductions are best. I’m not much for playing with toys or other dogs, but I do fine with calm, similar-sized canine friends. Oh, and thunderstorms? Hard pass. My coping mechanism is hiding under a blanket with you until they’re over. Also, full disclosure: I sometimes eat things that aren’t food (paper towels, socks, grass), so… watch your laundry. Kids are TBD, but I’m happy to meet them once I’m fully recovered from my spay.

Health and Vetting:
I’m spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and negative for heartworms. I’ve been treated for hookworms and tapeworms and am working on kicking a stubborn UTI (my rescue is on top of it).

Why You’ll Love Me:
If you want a calm, affectionate, blanket-sharing buddy who won’t pester you for constant activity but will absolutely be your shadow when it counts, I’m your girl. Add in my love for food and my low-drama personality, and you’ve got yourself the perfect Netflix marathon partner.

Can’t wait to meet you! 🐾❤️
Love,
Mia

Meet Keisha: Your Loving, Bouncy, Cuddle-Fueled Sidekick!

Hey there, I’m Keisha! I’m a 2-year-old red and rust Doberman with natural ears, a docked tail, and a heart that’s absolutely bursting with love (and zoomies). If you’re looking for a goofy, affectionate, and slightly spastic best friend, you’ve come to the right place.

A Little About Me:

Personality:
I’m the definition of a love bug. Pets? Yes, please. Cuddles? Don’t even ask—just bring it in. I’ve got an enthusiastic, happy-go-lucky spirit and love everyone I meet, especially kids. I’m still learning not to jump up when I get excited (which is basically all the time), but I really do adore the little ones and want to be near them.

My Story:
I was an owner surrender when my family had to move and couldn’t find a rental that would allow a big dog like me. I miss them, but I’m thriving in rescue and ready to find a new family to love.

Manners and Training:
I’m crate trained, potty trained, and doing well on a leash—I just need a bit more practice. I didn’t have any training before coming into rescue, so I’m starting from scratch, but I’m eager to learn! Treats help. (Did I mention I’m always hungry?)

Special Considerations:
I’m still gaining weight, but I’m looking and feeling better every day. As for cats... I rush toward them, so I’m probably not the best match for a feline sibling. With dogs, I seem to do fine, but I’m still learning how to share space politely. Let’s just say I have a big personality!

Health and Vetting:
I’m spayed, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and negative for both heartworms and intestinal parasites. I’m all set and ready to move in!

Why You’ll Love Me:
If you’ve got room in your home (and on your couch) for a loving, snuggly, slightly chaotic companion who lives to love you, I’m your girl. Let’s build a life full of cuddles, laughs, and maybe a little obedience training. Apply to adopt me today!

Can’t wait to meet you! 🐾❤️

Keisha

🍋💛 Some days in rescue are really, really hard. The heartbreak, the vet bills, the dogs no one chooses—it can weigh heavy. But then something beautiful happens, and it reminds us why we keep going.

Recently, a sweet and thoughtful family set up a lemonade stand—not for themselves, but for our rescue. They spent the day pouring drinks and pouring love into every cup, raising money to help dogs they’ve never even met. That kind of kindness? It’s everything.

To the Wilders: thank you. You didn’t just raise money—you lifted spirits, gave hope, and reminded us that the world still has so much good in it.

Moments like this are what carry us through the hard ones.
You restored our faith in humanity—and our hearts are so full. We just wish that we had rknown and stopped by. That lemonade and those Rice Krispie treats look SO good! 💛🐾
