Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) education in public and private school through grade 12. FCCLA offers intra-curricular resources and opportunities for students to pursue careers that support families. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in th

eir families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.

Our FCCLA Chapter will be attending the State Leadership Convention in Sioux Falls April 21-23, and our members will have the opportunity to participate in a service project that involves weaving mats using plastic bags. The mats will be provided to a local homeless shelter. We have been asked to bring a minimum of 500 plastic bags (the amount it takes to weave one mat).

Last week during , we held a coloring contest for Pre K through 6th grade. We had 52 entries across 3 categories: Pre K to K, 1-3, and 4-6. Our members chose Blakely Boomsma for 4-6, Faith Haskell for 1-3, and Della Lambert (not pictured) for Pre K to K. Thanks for participating Doland elementary students!

On FCS Educator Day, current chapter adviser Danielle Troske Teigen wanted to recognize her FCCLA Adviser Janet Hallberg.

“I had never considered running for office in FCCLA until Mrs. Hallberg pulled me aside one day after class and told me she thought I would make a great state officer. Running for office was terrifying, but I’m so glad I did it. The year I spent as FCCLA state president was such an important step in my leadership journey and gave me the confidence to pursue other leadership opportunities in college and beyond. Years later, I told her how much it meant to me that she saw something in me that I had yet to identify, and I thanked her again for all the support she gave me.”

Today’s theme is Day of Service, and we wanted to highlight important service projects our chapter has embraced.

Adopted Grandparents have always been an important program for our chapter, and it’s a great way to connect different generations through FCCLA.

We’re also happy to have teamed up with our Doland FFA Chapter to provide holiday goodies each year to businesses and individuals who have supported our organizations!

And one of our members, Shelby, has made it a mission each year to collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Sioux Falls. Our FCCLA members have the honor of dropping off the donation when we’re in Sioux Falls for the State Leadership Convention!
