FREE ASKARI RALLY! 💯💪🏿💯
JOIN US TODAY!
The goal of this rally is to:
- Advocate to the Parole Board to release Askari.
- Encourage Lynchburg Commonwealth Attorney Bethany Harrison to support Askari's release.
- Educate the Lynchburg community about this remarkable man from their community.
WHY RALLY?
The Supreme Court has upheld that juries, who had the power to sentence, must be instructed on the abolition of parole for non-capital felony offenses committed on or after January 1, 1995.
In 1999, Dale Lee Pughsley was convicted of second-degree murder in the Lynchburg Circuit Court for the killing of David Robertson. After serving 27 years of a 53-year sentence, he remains incarcerated, with 22 years still to serve in the Virginia Department of Corrections.
While incarcerated, Pughsley legally changed his name to Askari Danso Mwalimu Sèkou Lumumba, which means Reliable, Warrior, Learned, and Gifted Teacher.
During his time in prison, Askari has organized and created petitions to advocate for human rights for himself and his peers. He has become an example of what society would now label an extraordinary citizen.
Askari used his time in prison to educate himself, earning his GED, a Paralegal Certification, and an Advanced Business Law Certificate. He serves as a mentor and teacher, assisting fellow residents with legal matters and counseling them in anger management, substance abuse, and violence prevention. Many formerly incarcerated individuals, now released, credit Askari for helping them stay out of prison. Askari has taken full responsibility for his actions and has proven that he is no threat to himself or others.
We invite all members of the media and the public to attend and show their support. Please share this with everyone you know. Thank you!
If you cannot join us please sign his petition and share this post. Continue to tune in for updates. This is a movement ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏼
