A look back in time to the 2011 Central Plains Regional Baseball Tournament held at then called Southside Municipal Ballpark. Pictured below is a batter swinging during 1 of the games.

Teams that participated included the host team Dickinson Post 3 Roughriders, North Dakota champion Mandan Post 40 Chiefs, South Dakota champion Sioux Falls East Post 15, Minnesota champion Eden Prairie and runner up Lino Lakes Post 566, Nebraska champion Omaha (Creighton Prep) Post 1 and runner up Grand Island Home Federal, and Iowa champion Carroll Merchants.

Eden Prairie would win the Central Plains as well as the American Legion World Series. Eden Prairie’s team in 2011 was the most recent Central Plains champion to win the American Legion World Series prior to CarpetLand becoming the latest American Legion World Series champions last week.

What memories do you have of the Central Plains Regional Tournaments hosted in Dickinson?

Last week the 2026 season came to a close for our teams. We want to take a moment to thank everyone for a great summer of baseball!

We want to specifically thank our 3 seniors and 2 super-seniors for the Roughriders for their hard work and dedication over the past few years to the program. This group has had an immense impact to the program, especially to our younger players who got their first taste at the Legion level and what it takes to compete at a high level. Multiple players who are departing our program will be continuing to play collegiate athletics to some degree ranging from college baseball, to club baseball, as well as college basketball.

We also want to thank Rod Kleinjan, Jim Dahl, Triston Stuhr, and the staff of KDIX Radio 1230 AM 100.7 FM - Dickinson, ND for airing our games throughout the summer. From the late nights at the ballpark, to the long bus rides home we know KDIX will be there and have our games on the airwaves!

We also want to thank Consolidated Telcom for the live coverage of games on Consolidated Channel 18 throughout the summer. They have spent many hours at the ballpark and we appreciate all the coverage they provide during the spring and summer!

We also want to thank Melvin Hanel for driving the bus and transporting the guys throughout the summer! Mel goes above and beyond to get the Roughriders to and from our destination safely and make the bus rides fun and enjoyable for our players and coaching staff!

We also want to take a moment to thank everyone who helped out during the Class A West Region Tournament that took place in late July. Everyone that pitched a hand big or small made the tournament run as smoothly as it possibly could have!

We also congratulate our Legion A and Babe Ruth teams on their respective runs they made at the region/state tournaments and look forward for to seeing them continue to improve in the years ahead!

Finally we want to thank all the coaches, parents, fans, and followers for your dedication and support to the guys all summer long!

Thank you again for all the support and we hope to see everyone back at the ballpark in April!

Join us in congratulating Kyler Kudrna on being named the 2026 North Dakota American Legion Baseball Scholarship recipient for Class AA!

This prestigious honor recognizes his excellence on and off the field and in the community. The scholarship requires letters of recommendation from the post commander of Dickinson Legion Post 3, the head coach of the team, and a community leader that can attest to the excellence on and off the field of the nominated player. Presenting the scholarship to Kyler was Bill Owens and Larry Reed from Fargo American Legion Post 2 - Gilbert C. Grafton.

In addition, Kyler qualifies for the opportunity to be a part of the National American Legion All-Academic Team Scholarship that is sponsored by Diamond Sports. From all state recipients, there will be 8 national winners that will receive a $2,500 scholarship and a 9th member as the captain will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship.
